Sorry that is the only way. I know it hurts. But you just have to take the bit and act like nothing happened.

Also if you used a flash it most likely startatled him. It could be that he is letting you know that he is not happy with you right now and wants you to go away. He could be having an off day and just wants to be left alone. You have to look at everything to figure out why he is biting you.

Yes, ignoring it is hard but try not to make a squeal or gasp. Give the bird a dirty look and a firm "No" or "No Bite!" and put it back in the cage for a time-out. Next time it will think twice about it (but still might bite anyway, they are certainly little imps at times!)

The only other thing you can do is learn how to avoid the bite altogether by reading his body language. It is pretty unusual for a grey to bite without warning you first that that is its plan. So learn the signs, pinning eyes, fluffed up feathers etc. If you must have him step up and you feel he may bite, hold your hand in a tight fist, hiding your thumb. That gives him less tender bits to hang onto;)

It does work, but it takes some time. And even when they have learned that biting doesnt make you go away, they can still bite occasionally. But it will get less frequent over time. Good luck with it:)
