I just found an egg in Precious' cage!!! I'm so excited:ohmy: :lol: Now, how do I get her to eat more calcium?:ohmy: No, she doesn't have a mate. I'm her flock. She's six and one half now.:cheer:

Any female bird is capable of laying infertile eggs when their hormones start raging...It is best to leave the egg/eggs until the female looses interest, continual egg laying can be detrimental to the birds health.If egg laying becomes a problem, a bird can receive an injection from an avian vet to stop the egg laying for a period of time.

It is important for greys to have a good natural calcium source in their diet. Dark leafy greened vegetables have a high calcium level and should be offered alongside a pelleted/ seed based diet.Foods included in this group are..

Cabbage (outside green leaves)

Well congrats Miss Kitty on the appearance of an egg from Precious, I know I face the same possibility when Josey gets old enough.

 

It is important to provide her with calcium and Tracy has provided some excellent sources.

Cuttle bones are also full of calcium. Maggie loved them but Alex totally ignores them.

Precious has ignored the cuttle bone and the mineral block that the breeder recommended. She does like broccoli stems and leaves as well as broccoli sprouts and sunflower greens. She will eat other greens occasionally. It seems she doesn't like cheese and she ignores egg shell. It was just I was so excited when I found the egg! OMG,:ohmy: she doesn't like cheese, Josey will go nuts over cheese but good that she does like greens then, she can get some calcium for them.

Precious must be the only, well almost only, creature on the planet that doesn't like cheese! My grandson thought so, too.:silly:
