branches for perches

hi can anyone tell me if its only fruit branches you can use for perches

Apple, Arbutus, Ash, Aspen, Beech, Birch, Cottonwood, Crabapple, Dogwood, Elm, Fir, Hawthorn, Larch, Magnolia, Manzanita, Mulburry, Pear, Pine, Poplar, Sequola (redwood) Willow

 

DANGEROUS WOOD:

 

DO NOT USE THE FOLLOWING

 

Apricoy, Cherry, Peach, Prune, Plum, Nectarine. This group of trees belong to the Prunus species. They contain Cyanogenic Glycosides which releases Cyanide if ingested. Ceader trees are another toxic tree as it has it's own oily toxin.

Howdy Shanny and welcome to the forum!

Morgan loves his branch perches. He enjoys peeling the bark off of them and chewing them. If you collect the branches outside (instead of purchasing brances already made into perches) don't forget to bake them in a 350º oven for about 30 min or so to kill off anything that could be living on or in the wood. Also be sure the trees you collect them from have not been sprayed with pesticides or other chemicals.
