sentra
We just brought home our new baby Sharkie. He is about 10 weeks old and a male. We have a Goffin and he is a year old. This is the first we gray we have had, any suggestions will be helpful with our baby. I know he is young but has not really started to get interested in anything except telling us when he is hungry. He will change as time goes on we know. He is full flight and has had a few collisions  . He sits for hours it seems uninterested, but when out of the cage he will sit on his perch and very seldom move. What can we do at this young age to help him adjust?? bbrew5
Welcome & Congrads on Sharkie I'm new also I've had my first grey for 2 weeks now he is 5 months old. Someone with more knowledge will come along and help you.
nims
Hi, Congrats on Sharkie! OK the collisions are normal as they are new to their wings and dont have much control. They learn really fast. Indy had some collisions when we first got her but now she is absolutely fine. Your baby is in a new environment and it will take a little while before he is used to it and settled in his new home. The best thing you can do is let him settle down and explore his new home. Just take things slow with him and maybe read to him to him. Please remember all greys are different and some just settle in fineand others may take a little longer. Good Luck Nims
sentra
Thanks Nims, Sharkie will sit for sometime on his perch and then fly away to by himself. Of course it's always on the clock, the intake for the AC and other hard to reach places. Any suggestions for toys or something to keep him busy on the ground. Also my Goffin likes to sneak up on him and pull his tail feathers also which really does not help. Thanks
nims
You could buy some foot toys for him to play with, do you have any places for the bird to perch outside of his cage? If not he could be flying there as he sees it as somewhere he can perch. Is he flying to a hard to reach place because of the Goffin? Does he step up yet? sentra
He does have some perches but seems to fly eleswhere. He really does not seem to care about the Goffin yet. We have some table perches and a large perch on top of his cage also. My wife has purchased some foot toys also. I have the material to build a larger stand with, just have to find the time to do it:lol: Don
nims
In that case I'm all out.......sorry! Maybe some of the other members will be able to provide some more input on this. However its just could be that sharkie is taking some time to settle in. My advice is be patient and dont expect too much from him just yet. Cagal08
Congrats on your new baby grey. Is he fully weaned off his formula? 10 weeks is awfully young to be weaned if he is. Monitoring his weight at this age is a good idea to make sure he is indeed eating enough. Where are the pictures of this lovely grey
sentra
Thanks Cagel08, No he is not weaned yet and he does have a very good appitite for sure. He is doing better now I do think he may have earned his wings so to speak. Will keep everyone posted. Have been off for awhile due to Ike's winds, no power for a couple of days. Will get a Pic posted soon. Sentra
judygram
Since you just brought him home he needs some time to settle in and feel comfortable then you will see more of his personality. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Sharkie.

sentra
Thanks to all of you who answered my call for help. Ollie AKA Sharkie is doing so much better. He still has his collisions, but he is learning, he just needs some ABS wings and a slower approach. He is starting to interact more with us humans (me). Now the only problem is getting the Goffin to accept him. The Goffin will pick at his feet when he lands on top of it's cage and when both are out he constantly picks on him even when we are holding him. Any suggestions?? Don PS I will try to remember to unload some pics tomorrow
Suzzique
Your guess is as good as mine. We have had Martini (senegal) for about 6 weeks now and Alex is still harassing him. I hate coming back into the living room and having to hunt for him. He is hard to spot sometimes as most of our stuff is green and he blends in! We have started ignoring Alex when he is on Martini's cage. We just pick Martini up from where ever he has fluttered to and pay attention to him. Alex of corse throws a tantrum and dumps Martini's water dish. But we just ignore him (clean up later). It's helped some but it's not totally fixed yet. Any other ideas would be great! tibanks
I have two Greys..My congo would love to interact with my Timneh, but the timneh is not receptive. Dont push a relationship between the two, give them both some time to adjust to the changes that have been made in the flock. Your Grey is still young, and developing..I dont know if I would be letting the Goffin harass the baby. Maybe interecting with them w/o the other bird around would be best for now, and then introduce them slowly. It's going to take time and patience, and then thru all that they still may never really want to interact...It's a parrot thing only they can decide. Both birds can love having each other as neighbors, but doesnt necessarily mean they will love being perched together.
