Tycos_mom
Happy halloween you 2 are you getting dressed up or what. I have to work which is a drag I just love seeing all the little one dressed up. I don't get to scare up any trouble tonight oh well have fun and think about me while I'm out there working my butt off:laugh: How the birds every body's happy and healthy I take it. Do your birds get afraid when the hear fireworks. Mine seem to be ok with it. My dogs on the other hand are just terrified of the noise. I feel so bad for them I think they would just love to crawl into a hole and stay there when the fireworks are going off. Well I can't talk much longer I have to start getting ready for work. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Tycos_mom
I haven't been keeping up much on the forum lately with a new bird that needs a lot of attention and my other birds and it seems like I'm always working whitch I'm not but because I've swithed days at wor to Wed, fri,and sat it seem like a long time before I have a few days off thank goodness tomorrow is sunday I have three and 1/2 days off I don't have to be at work until 5pm on wedensday I'll finelly can relax a little and mabie catch up with everything I hate working but I guess we all have to do it. Its so funny because there was a time that I couldn't get enough of it when I was younger and suporting 4 kids pretty much by myself even though I had a husband he was pretty much useless when it came to being the bread winner. now I just want to retire and never work again but I can't It would be nice though to be my age which is 50 and be retired don't you think. zooman
Yeah no amazing Halloween things for me either. Just another day i had to work as well so I never seem to have the ngiht off but stayed in tonight and watched horror movies, nothing special. I know how it is being busy but i think even our feathered friends understand. When i tuck in the boys here well i take them to their cage before i leave to work and i say get to bed, most nights they hustle to their top perches before i shut off the light but sometimes they do the begging thing birds do and chirp and be like 5 more minutes dad. Retirement ooo that would be nice and just hanging out with the flock and not having the thought urgh gotta go to work soon anymore but your right we all have to do it. All we can do is make the best of the time off we have right. How is your new friend Gizmo doing?
bettyboop
Work ...Bummer ...I am so busy , I don't have time , most of the time to go to work ....LOL.... I would love to retire , but I am a long way away .... So , I will just make the best of it . Everything seemed fine when I got home last night, birds asleep , dogs fed , house still intact..We had fun , it's been a long time since I got away like that with just my Daughter for the whole day and part of the EVE... We did some Christmas shopping , which is good...I saw a lot of awesome decorating ideas.... Have a nice Sunday.
Tycos_mom
Yep Chistmas is right around the corner. Its going to be a costly one for me this year got 2 grandchildren to buy for plus about 12 more on top of that with my nieces and nephews new baby's as well. my son just bought his first home also. So I think I'll get him something nice to put in it. That way I can get away with just one gift for him and his wife. I love the Christmas season but It always kills the finances for about 3 months after Christmas I have no money for anything. I wish it wasn't so comercialized. I think it would be allot nicer then. Least I doné have to cook Christmas dinner anymore I have daughters that can do that for me now. I cooked for 18 people every year for a very long time now its my turn to relax. I refuse to cook another thanksgiving or Christmas dinner ever again. Its not my job anymore. I had my oldest daughter and her baby over all day today it was a very nice visit I haven't seen her for about 3 weeks so It was good to catch up she's going to have another baby in about 7 months so I'll have 3 grandbabys soon. Being a grandmother is so much fun you get to have the fun and none of the work.
bettyboop
None of the work , geeze , it seems like I have my 3 year old Grandson almost as much as his Mother does. He is precious and so adorable but a handful .We are all so busy , she needs help sometime and I am the one she can always count on.... I agree about Christmas , I decided to cut back on the money spent on each one this year , well it's not going to work , the amount won't cover squawt...This is our fault , we have 4 Grandchildren and we have always lavished them with presents . So that is why I have tried to start a bit earlier , ha ha , not much it's already November. Oh well , it will work out .I do still cook Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners , we will have about 24 at our house .I love it , if I can get my house cleaned the way I like it . Probably be up till midnight a couple of nights before the events..... How are the birds doing ? Gizmo , doing ok ?Has Raja said anything ? Tycos_mom
Raja is trying so hard he does say come on but thats not real clear yet he practices constantly its so cute to listen to. he usually does most of his practicing in the morning while he's haveing his breakfast I uncover all the birds at 8am but I don't oprn the cages of the smaller birds until around 11am it cives them a chance to eat their breakfast with out the other little birds helping themselves to each others food. All the smaller birds are very good friends the two cockateils,Raja, and Sprout ny GCC all play together happily I laughed so hard this morning I gave Raja a Peanut and He was sitting up on top of the cockateil cage well Princess wanted to try that peanut really bad they're Raja's favorite treat well she must Of tried 4 times to get a bite if the peanut Raja would lunge to say go away and 3 seconds later she would go back and try again. I laughed it was so funny to watch Raja would never hurt her they're good friends and she knows it so she was very persistant she really wanted to try some of his peanut so finally I broke one open for her and put it in her dish she was a very happy camper I think that was the very first peanut she has ever had. cockateil don't have peanuts in the diet usualy but I guess princess does now becuse she really enjoyed that peanut. I love to watch the birds play together nobody plays with a bird like another bird does and they are very fun to watch. Tyco has become good friends with one of my teils also and to me thats very strange I don't like it. Tyco is a 600gr African Grey and she huge compared to a Little cockateil it scares me but she doesn't seem to try and hurt him at all I still watch really closely its just to scary for me. bettyboop
Zsa Zsa still does not like Sammy , and probably never will .She is still going after him every chance she gets , so they are kept apart till eve. Then they are both in the family room with us , we keep them busy so they don't really get a chance to mess with each other .Sounds like yours have fun . zooman
wow you 2 have huge families yes christmas must be such a burden on the pocketbook with you. Plus the birds and you know we have to buy them something too!! How are your zsa zsa and raja any new words? I taught them the bomb whistle zuri got it after a day and tiago does his own version of it. I think im going to regret it, its getting on my nerves already. I kinda wish i could be with them at their breakfast time but i gotta sleep so its not going to happen but i do make them a bowl of fresh stuff but they dont seem as interested because they have been awake so long and are dying for attention at least my guess. I cant have my 2 together either they just are ok with each other but want their space. but i never had high hopes they would i figured being different breeds the chances were small ti nil
bettyboop
Yes I do have a large family .I buy for about 25 people .Our family is very large . Oh it is fun, I don't mind . That's why I think my two don't get along , being different species. No Zsa Zsa hasnt said anything else. She will mimic new whistles , I understand about their getting on your nerves.Sammy never shuts up , he talks all the time and oicks up a new word everyday .You can even make up a silly word , say it once and he will say in about 10 mins. He recites parts of books , he is amazing . Have a good day....
Tycos_mom
Tycos the same way she can learn something as soon as it she hears it she can say it. my youngest daughter was excited about a week ago and said woooo!!!! well for the last week I've been hearing it constantly and I don't think its going to stop anytime soon its one of those thing that hard not to repeat back to her and I keep telling people to ignore her or she will never stop its getting on my nerves big time she definatly has it stuck in her head like a song that get stuck in our heads and we find ourselves singing it all day long
bettyboop
Yes , I know what you mean .Sammy says ouch , all the time , then I'm sorry .So all day it's "ouch , I'm sorry " Who knows ????? But , I wish he would pick up another .He also says Zsa Zsa , I love you . I know she would flip him off if she had a middle talon .Ha ha , she hisses at him .What a pair. zooman
haha thats funny mine are jealous boys too there is no hissing but def. no love there..lol. Ive always read that birds pick up words in excitement in my experience its true if i say something in my normal voice i have yet to hear either of them repeat it. If im higher pitched or say something in a surprised way its picked up much easier. maybe their attention is more focused im not sure, what do you think? Are you happy or disapointed in the presidency change?
bettyboop
I think our tone has a lot to do with some birds , however Sammy just picks up words , he has different voices , he can even sound like someone who has a very raspy (SP?) voice when they first wake up , so I don't think this applies to him . Zsa Zsa picked up NO NO , when I said it with excitment , she was chewing on the rubber seal on top of fridge....I think also thelittle childrens voices excite them , my Grand girls sing and giggle , he picked their voices up the first time he met them , now he can talk in their voices and it's just like they are here , also it's not just things they say .It can be anything in their voices. He is very smart , and quick ....poor little Zsa Zsa doesnt really have a chance to talk .I think they love drama. About the Election , I am glad that part is over , honestly , I am disappointed. zooman
Zsa zsa must feel like sammy took over with his talking and being out staged haha..i agree they do learn that way good point. When i raise my voice when hes being bad zuri kinda does what kids do when you do that kinda gives me im sorry look and has the oops look. Its been gorgeous here all week ive been trying to get them outside as much as possible before the long winter hibernation. One day id love to build a heated sunroom even a small one in my house so that i can take them for some sunshine otehr than through the windows like they get now. Im giving my playstand to a elderly lady i met because she cant make one and wants to have her grey out like how i do. I didnt even know there was another grey in my building. I want to build a new more compact one anyway and she was a nice lady so why not eh? About the election i dont want to knock your countries ways but it just seemed forever the lead up to it, here i think its 2 months from announcing it to election day. I cant see how an avg. citizen that would be an amazing president be able to afford a campaign that long..its odd. Yes you being from texas im sure you didnt vote for him. from what i saw your one of the few states.
bettyboop
You are correct my State and I did not vote for him . I believe McCain with his war History would have been much more stable.I could but won't go on about this . I followed this election coverage from day one to the end , I researched , confirmed and knew what was the truth , I am concerned that the American people chose who they elected . You are correct , it was way too long. This is very kind to give the playstand to the lady , I am sure her Grey will love it ....That would be awesome to have a heated sun room . The birds would really enjoy . Yes , that is what I think that Z doesnt have a chance to talk , I do keep her out of the bird room where he is in the day time , however we can hear him in their talking up a storm .He is sweet and it's not his fault .Ha Ha I do read to them a lot and have childrens shows on , the learning ones , I heard him saying A B C the other day and he will say sometimes , Which one is Orange ? It is so funny , he does make us laugh , and when we laugh , then he laughs.... Our weather is being very Fallish and pleasant also .Our leaves are actually getting some reds , orange and yellows in them .I love it . Take care, M
Tycos_mom
Definatly Tyco's a huge drama queen she also picks up everyones voices. My daugher was in the bath the other night I heard MOM MOM so I went to see what she wanted. She looked at me like I had totaly lost my mind It was Tyco but I could have sworn it was Andraya it sounded exactly the same. If they put Tyco and Andraya in a room and said Ãou'll win a million dollars is you can pick out which is you daughter voice and which is the bird I'd probubly lose they sound the same Tyco also talks in my voice but to me It doesn't sound like me to everyone else its my voice. It is amazing how smart they become. My oldest daughter came over with the baby the other day and we where haveing coffee and visiting when all of a sudden we hear need help with toys. Tyco likes foot toys but she drops them and then can't pick them up and climb at the same time. So she figured she would ask meto come adn do it. That was a first for her my daughter couldn't beleive it. a bird asking for help, unheard of.
bettyboop
They are smart .... My birds fly around with toys in their beaks all the time .They will go to each others playstands and steal stuff and take it back to their side of the room .Then whoever was stolen from will squawk till someone replaces or recovers it . Just like having kids.
Luvparrots
Hi Alexandrine owners, I luv to sneak over here and read your posts. They sound like great birds to add to a flock.
Tycos_mom
I'm glad you enjoy our little thread. its fun to compare bird and find out what's the same and whats different about them. I don't have an alexanderine but I do have the smaller verion of one. its kind of like the difference between a CAG and a TAG they are the same in many ways. Same bird different size ringnecks don't have the red slash of feathers on their wings and their lower mandable is black not red and they weigh around 110 to 120 grams I'm not sure of the weight for an Alex but I think its about double the ammount. Betty or Zooman can tell you I sure.
Tycos_mom
Boy its hard to love on Raja this morning talk about bad breath. last night I made one of those side kick pasta things as a side dish with dinner I had a bit left over so I gave each of the birds a little bit of it each it was the one with the shell and it has garlic in it. well this morning all I can smell is garlic on Raja breath. I told him to go brush his beak {Feel-good-0002006E}
bettyboop
Ha Ha , everyone calls me betty , my name is Mary .When I was growing up Bettyboop was my favorite cartoon . So , no one used her name that I ever saw , so it's mine now .I did notice another similar which was BetsyBoop , how funny..... Anyway yes the Alexandrines are bigger than the Ringnecks , probably double as Pat suggested .They are awesome birds and have been normally kept as avairy birds , till just some short time back people have started having them as pets .You can look back in the past post and see all of our babies . We also have Greys , which mine and Zoomans Alex's and Grey's don't like each other. So , normally I don't think Alex's bond well with other birds except their own kind. They do talk and bond very strongly with their owners, boy do they ever . They are as curious as a cat , and love being right in the center of everything . Glad you read our post , the three of us act like it's our own little world of friendship over here. However there has been a mutual friendship established , I think I can speak freely about that for the other two as well as myself . I am so pleased to share such a long thread with both of them .They are very kind and knowledgeable about their birds..... As you can see we love our birds and enjoy writting about them , thanks for stopping by . Mary
bettyboop
Pat , I bet he about knocked you over , ha ha .How is he doing , anymore words yet ? How old is he now ?
