I'm sorry if I made you feel bad in anyway I know what its like when your mom or dad is sick and needs your help. Both my parents are gone now and I remember when it was my dads time. It was just awful I spend every minute I could at the hospital I would get up in the morning and feed the birds get my daughter off to school and leave for the hospital. I'd come home to cook dinner and feed the birds and let them out for an hour or so until dinner and dishes where done then it was back to the hospital again. this went on for a whole week and my dad was not being fed at all because everytime they gave him something to eat he would hemoredge from the bowel. So he was slowly starving to death it took a whole week for him to pass and it was the worst week of my life watching my dad dieing a little more each day. I do know what changes in life can be like we all have them some are good changes and some aren't. I'm trully sorry that your mom has fallen and cracked her hip and I hope she heals quickly so thing can get back to normal for you. I was not directing my post at you I know we have changes also but I was talking about the people that buy birds and stick them in a cage and don't even care if they are there or not I know that you love your birds and if you could you would be there for them and will be again I'm so sorry my statements where not for you or anyone else on this forum forgive me its not like me not to be sensetive to what was going on in your life at the moment I didn't even think about it when I said those things. I'm very sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Our Daughter takes care of the birds at her house while we travel and they love it , she never tells them no , LOL...

Also , I misread the artical that my friend shared with me about the Alex and IRN , they are related .Sorry , my mistake .Take care

Im sure she didnt mean it towards you and i know you are def doing your best. I dont think you could possibly do that much damage to them considering you love them and spend even small amounts is basically better than none. Like i said before i noticed when i have to go out for a wedding lets say the next days they are needy but after a day or so they get bored of me again..lol.

Family is more important than trying to be exactly normal with your birds, and your husband plays with your grey no?

Birds i think seem a lot like kids and they are tough little guys i dont have kids but you know when your kids are mad at you and the next day or days all is forgiven, at least ive noticed that.

I think she was tlaking bout more people who buy them on a hey that'll be a cool pet along with the lets get a bunny on easter people and find out wow this is too much work, lets leave them alone and and they are abused emotionally.

Well , I am not into throwing my money away and I ask why Vegas ? He said I got a great deal and a great Hotel .So we just plan on relaxing , enjoying each other, and site seeing . He is my Guy , he is so sweet ... It will be interesting ,LOL....

Yes, my Daughter does great with the birds and they know her because she is over all the time, I'm not worried . However I do miss them when we travel as well as our dogs .

My Husband and I both play with Sammy , but he takes over when he gets in from work so I can devote the rest of the time with Zsa Zsa .Sammy loves my Husband , so I don't exist after he is home anyway...They aren't being ignored , it's my afternoon time , like 12 noon - 4 that I am not home to interact and play with them .So instead of 8 hours play time , they are basically getting 4 .They havent shown any stress . They will be OK.

I know Pat wasnt directing the comment to me , it just made me feel bad and like I said , I have been a little tired and overly sensitive since all this with my Mom. It's over and I am sorry . Pat is a wonderful person , I know she would never do that .

Hugs,

Mary

4 hours is nothing to be worried about yes its less but def enough time and more than lots of people devote to their birds out there. But i can imagine how it must feel having to be away.

Well that was really nice of him to do that for you and im sure it'll be nice to get away.

I can well imgine what its like packing up every thing the birds would need for a couple days I think I would just get my daughter to come over for a couple hours each day. rather then take them to her. espeically if its only for 2 days thats just to much work. then you gotta do it all again when you get home. Hope you have a wonderful time everything will be back to normal soon and the little get away should releive some of the stress even if its only temporary I wish I could get away sometimes but there just never seems to be a right time. Either theres not enough money or not enough time it never seems I have both at the same time. Have one

I'm so jealous I could so use a little get away but I'm afraid that my house might not be here My daughter would probubly have a huge party and everything would be a total disaster area. She is just so lazy I hope its a phaze she is going through she just turned 13. Welcome home I missed you and I missed hearing about your birds.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/16 07:04

Hey you two , I'm back !!!

Thanks for the welcome and the I missed you , That was sweet Pat ...

It was relaxing and fast , LOL...It was fun , the weather was awesome and those Hotels are something else .It was like being in different countries all at the same time .Amazing how realistic they are.

No we didnt come back rich , did a small amount at the slots , just to say we did it .LOL...how silly...

The birds were so glad to see us and loved being back home , they had a blast flying all over and checking to make sure everything was right where they left it .Got plenty of kisses from both .They are so funny .

Zooman , hope you had a nice day off , I love days off. Toys , Sammy only likes foot toys , that is about all he will mess with and they can range from plastic , wood , leather , or rope . Z likes plastic , paper and wood . If I dare try to read the mail , she is right there , ready to shred what I am tossing in the trash , LOL...

I save the plastic lids from butter tubs etc...and she loves to play with them especially the small ones. You can punch holes and string them together, she also likes the tubs, I use a large plastic chain and make a slit in the bottom of margarine tubs , run the chain through the slit and space the tubs , about three on the chain . Then I hang it from the top of the cage and place little snacks and toys in each one .She loves it , Sammy takes things out of his but he doesnt climb up and down the chain like she does .

They both like the practice golf balls , and you can really get creative with them .

Hope this helps .

Tyco onlt likes foot toys also. Excet for her giant boing her Knotted rope and her swing that hangs from the ceiling Her giant boning hangs from the ceiling and is about 10 ft long or more if you stretched it out straight its a good 6'long with the turns in it. At the top I hung a big stainless steel Bell she love to climb her boing and ring her bell. Her rope is a 2 inch cotton rope thats got 6 knot in it its about 7 ft long she likes to climb around on that also. she also uses it to make her swing go faster. she pulls holds the rope and pulls the swing towards it so when she lets go she swings faster. but as far as toys likes hanging blocks and stuff like that she doesn't care if they are there or not. she loves thing she can climb ir hold onto and throw around and that all. Raja love to play and chew kleanex I have to watch him because he love to pull them out of the box she will empty a full box in no time. he also likes cardboard boxes I hide little treats in them or in toilet paper rolls and fold the ends he loves to chew them up to find the treat inside.

I'm going to try some of your foraging Ideas out as soon as I go shooping I'll buy some margarine that comes in the small containers. I usualy use butter and Margerine for baking but I just buy Did you see the new rescue bird I'm getting its a Severe Macaw. take a look. This thread of ares is showing signs of slowing down so let try to keep things fresh. Hows that little girl of yours doing since you've been back I bet she doesn't want to leave you for a minute. I know when I'm gone for any length of time my birds are stuck like glue for awhile they don't want to let me out of their sight in case I'm gone to leave them again.

OMG , Zsa Zsa is like glued to my shoulder , she is so glad we are home . My Daughter is so good to our birds but they are always so glad to have us back .

They both are calling , everytime we are out of sight , so we call back and they start all over till we come back into the room .

They love the foraging out of the tubs , I also put little treats , like Almonds , banana chips , rasins etc ...Z likes it the best , so I hope your fids enjoy it .

Where is ZooMan ??? Hope he isn't getting bored with our thread ....

I spent a lot of time reading to my birds over the weekend , just trying to give them some one on one attention . Sammy recites my three little pig book , almost perfect .He says I will huff , puff , blow down , it is so funny , he loves the books , more than Z , however his is vocabulary is huge . I do talk to them all the time , and I run out of interesting things to say , so that is one of the reasons I started reading books . The Grandkids have tons of the classic childrens stories at the house , and they are always fun to read .

I have not seen the new rescue bird yet , you are getting quite a large flock Pat ......When do you have time for yourself ?Not that I do , but one more bird would for sure put me over the limit .

Well , I have to get ready for work .

Talk later,

Mary

One whole hour , oh my gosh , you deserve more than that .....

I understand though , it is hard to pull away . Perhaps you could have a Saturday off once a month .I just know I am a work a holic and it took me years to figure it out . I am important , and I need breaks , breaks from work and breaks from my chores. We try to get away twice per year , it feels good . Even to just go to a park or sit outside in the sunshine .Just do something fun .

You birds will even notice a change....

Sorry I didnt get back sooner my phone line was down till just a few minutes ago .We have squirrels and I think one chewed on a line , they have done it before . So funny......

Hugs ,

Mary

hey ladies sorry i had a wedding this weekend out of town and been so busy catching up since i got back on the regular house chores i usually do on my day off, so I hope you both are doing well and glad you had a great trip and didnt lose all your money. When you can come back from vegas with your money you've done well i would think. Im glad your birds didnt miss you too much I left the boys for about almost a full day, left sat afternoon and came home the same time sunday. I was soo worried but i made some very safe toys and they securely in the cages, and when i got home i was jumped by them for attention and have been trying to juggle one and then the other since. Thats the longest ive left them since i got them.

I ordered some toy parts and think im going to try and sell them online toys i build i mean. Its worth a shot if they dont sell ill keep them for my boys so its not a lost cause i just want to see as a experiment.

Thats soo cute about you reading to your birds haha, and that hes picking up on the words, which is great.

Glad you are back , missed you .

Take care

Mary I was a total work aholic for so many years I worked 12 to 14 hours a day 6 sometimes 7 days a week up until about 7 years ago when I got septisemia blood posioning that went to my heart. My legs burnt right down to the bone from the inside out. my hemaglobin was 2 and my blood presure was non existant the Dr. told me I was going to die. my answer to him was I don't have time to die. I still had three teenage girls at home and a 6 yr old there was no way I was about to leave them motherless. Everything tasted like salt for about a year so it was hard to eat but I had to eat in order to get better I was taking 300 mg of Iron a day to help build my hemagobin back up. I went from 140lbs to 85 lb in 10 day whem I got out of the hospital My right leg was 1 foot shorter than my left leg and all my tendents where burnt and shrivled up in a ball behind my Knee It took almost 21/2 years to recover so that slowed me down some. I must say though all that hard work paid off. I'm 50yrs old I own my own home and its paid for I drive a brandnew pt cruser convertable that also paid for. I still have to work but not to much anymore. I still have a couple open wounds on my legs that don;t heal very well due to all the damage to the little blood vessels in my legs. I have to have my feet up allot of the time now of they get infected so its two hours up and then two hours down. on the nights I work I pretty much have to have my feet up all day so I can be on my feet for 6 hours straight. I must admit I have lots of time for myself because I have no choice so when I'm sitting with my feet up I spend that time with my birds. let me tell you they get tons of one on one quality time because I have all the time in the world these days I can have the amount of birds that I have because allot of the time I'm just sitting with my feet up anyway. I don't have to work to hard anymore so I don't

Wow Pat ,

You have been through a lot . Bless your heart , I had no idea. I like your attitude , to your Dr. "I don't have time to die " . That is probably what saved your life . I understand your birds are important to you for many reasons and they are very lucky to have you . You have accomplished much in this world and you should be proud .

I am glad I know you , and we are friends .I admire your fortitude ....... Keep up the good work and I am glad you enjoy birds so much , they are fun .

Hugs ,

Mary

I def did enjoy the trip i drove there and took the back roads back so saw the countryside in the north and lots of those trees you wanted to see. We have a town called salem here an hour or so way and they of course take halloween pretty serious so it was cool to drive through.

And yes they did miss me tons they almost didnt want to go to bed when i got home it was their usual time to go and they just kept all over me which is ok i missed them a lot as well.

And wow i agree that must have been so scary for you and i def agree that feeling saved your life, so many people as soon as they are told you have months to live they seem to die. I think a person's spirit dictates when you really are going to die. Yours was remarkable and good for you to fight it and have turned your life around and now helped rescued birds and save them from probably early deaths.

Wow , I bet the town Salem was cool , I love those little towns all decked out for Halloween , I would love to see it. I didnt get to do my Fall Trip this year to see the leaves. Oh well .

I am glad our birds miss us when we are gone , it proves we are doing something right .

I noticed when I logged on , this thread has been viewed 1000 times , isnt that great ?

I guess we need to stay on our toes .LOL...

I was wondering , what is the biggest challange you have experienced with your bird or birds ?

Have a nice day ....

You should have seen Raja tonight was he ever in a playful mood he was on the small boing that hangs from the ceiling above his cage its a good size for the smaller birds because its only 5/8 thick anyway he was hanging upside down from the first turn and flapping his wings like crazy and the more he flapped the faster the boing would swing and spin. well by the time he stopped spinning and steped down onto his cage he was so dizzy he looked drunk what a silly bird he is. He was definatly getting some good excersize though making that boing go faster and faster I wonder if he felt a little queezy in his tummy after all that spinning and swinging:laugh:  :silly:

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/24 04:58
