Tycos_mom
Bandit my new Cockateil hurt himself somehow. I thinking mabie when he was out he might have flown into something and when he put his foot up bent his toe backward. He has a broken toe. He was in shock for a while so I had to keep a heating pad under his cage and cover three sides to keep the heat in but he seems better today. The vet said there isn't much they can do for a broken toe. She gave me something for the pain. I put his pearches and food low to the floor of his cage for a while because its hard for him to climb right now. I also put a small cardboard box with some paper towels in it just in case he wants to lay down and rest his good foot. Does anybody have any other sugestions on how I can make him a little more comfortable until his Toe heals.
judygram
Pat I am sorry to hear about Bandit's toe, the poor thing, but you have already done about all you can to make him as comfortable as you can, lowering his perches and putting his food low so he can reach it without much climbing. He is a lucky little fella to have a loving and caring mom like you to take care of him.
BaxtersMom
Oh, so sorry to hear about Bandits broken toe. It must hurt but sounds like you are doing all that can be done to make him comfortable. Poor thing. I broke my toe once and it was just awful:unsure:
Suzzique
Oh poor Bandit! I agree you have already done as much as is possible to make him comfortable. Maggie the tiel we had for 7 years broke her wing when she was about 5. We think something scared her in the middle of the night and as she was flapping her wing got cought in the bars of her cage. I moved everything down to the bottom of her cage and put a towle in the bottom for her as well. We didn't take her to the vet because we didn't even think that she would live. She proved us wrong. Not only did she live but her wing healed enough that she even flew again! We lost her a few years later to a very tragic accedent.
spookyhurst
I had a parakeet who got his foot caught in a chain that hung his mirror. He panicked, and broke his toe. It healed so that he had 3 toes in back and 1 in front . He got around fine, but I know the toe bothered him sometimes by the way he held his foot. Joey received no care for his toe (I was just a dumb kid in a small town with no bird vet), so Brandt is bound to be better off.
