SarahDavid
We just changed the food for Noah he is about 4 months old but the old food was a mix of many kinds of seeds and nuts but the new kind is called : "pretty bird species specific" but its looks completly different than the old food its more like dry cat food many pieces in many colours there is no seeds or nuts in it. I feed Noah the new food i just descriped for you and its available for him at all time beside that i give him few almonds and peanuts and different kinds of vehgtables. Is this a normal diet for him or not good ? thanks alot Zahra
lovemyGreys
Pretty bird species specific is a pellet, it will look completely different from the seed/nut mix you have been feeding Noah. With pellets it is advised that they are available at all times as you are doing The pellets are fine alongside the veggies.Try & vary his diet at times, perhaps offer him a little, pasta, rice etc mixed in with his veggies.Does Noah eat fruit ? I have included two links for you,the first on what are members feed their greys & the second on introducing new foods... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/24030-whats-your-greys-diet.html http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/53831-tips-for-getting-your-grey-to-eattry-new-foods.html
SarahDavid
Thank you so much for your advice, is it also important that seed mix is available for Noah all time along with the pellets ?
lovemyGreys
No you dont have to make the seed mix available all day & if you do then i guarantee Noah will ignore the pellets in favour of the seed ! perhaps limit to one bowl a day,as they do love their seed
Suzzique
Alex uses his seed mix as a bed time snack. He really doesn't eat much of it. He has fresh stuff all day long and would rather eat that. But enjoys the crunch of the seeds at bed time.
lovemyGreys
That's good, limit the quantity of seed he has to once a day .Sounds as if he is doing great
Suzzique
Oh it is there all the time so that he always has something to eat. It is something that he does all on his own.
Janfromboone
Tobie eats pretty bird pellets almost exclusively. He gets seeds as a treat for doing tricks but isn't all that excited about them. After 5 or six he starts dropping them. He gets veggies at dinner time and if he doesn't eat them all I put them in his cage in a bowel. What kind of seeds do you buy and what kind of seeds do they like most. I have trouble getting Tobie excited about anything as a treat for doing tricks. He seems just as happy if I just make a big deal with verbal praise. judygram
They do like praise so if that works just as good as a treat then so much the better. It varies from bird to bird, some love sunflower seeds, some pine nuts and some it may be shelled peanuts, you just need to see which nut Tobie goes for first if you put a variety in front of him.
