Preening me!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Something strange happened when I was sitting with my baby CAG this evening. She likes to sit on my lap and be scratched but she started to preen me (my clothes) like she preens her feathers! Also she likes to pick her feet and claws is this normal?

Can anyone tell me why she is doing this?

Thanks

Nims

(its really cute though!)

That is cute:kiss:

Yes it is normal for them to preen their feathers, and their clutch mates, maybe she thinks you are a grey:)

One of mine loves to chew on his toes, his talons are always really short. I was thinking of getting some of that stop'n'gro stuff that you get to stop kids biting their nails:P

A good share of birds' waking hours are spent in preening. In the ritual of preening all the feathers are lubricated. Some birds use the oil from the preening gland near the base of the tail and others use the extremely fine powder down.In either case feathers must be protected from wear. With only one set of feathers a year, and being in continuous use, if they become ragged and thin, they will lose their ability to carry out their functions. Birds seem to know that good feathering depends upon constant feather care, and so preen continually :)

Hi,

Thanks for your responses, I fully understand the need for preening and to Make sure that their feathers are well kept. What I found strange was that she was preening me?!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Nims
