Awaiting the arrival

BlueCounty

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently to the decision to to buy an African Grey Parrot from a breeder. The bird will be getting delivered in around 2 weeks and I'm really looking forward to the arrival.

I've paid for a full set-up package which includes the cage, food pack, toys, harness, pet carrier and perch and parrot care book.

I've got a fairly open lounge through to the kitchen (no doors)and was wondering if it was a good idea to get the birds wings clipped?

Also if anyone else has some tips, please feel free to share your knowledge!

Another question regarding the bottom of the cage? Do you put sand/newspaper cuttings/grit??

Thanks to anyone who gives advice :)

At this point in time please dont clip a young grey,he needs to build up his muscles & be able to master his flying. If you do a search in the search box at the top of the page, you can read over previous threads on clipping.

I have always used newspaper, baby greys tend to scratch around in the bottom of their cages so i wouldnt recommend sand or grit which could be ingested ;)

good luck with your new baby,be sure to update us :)

My kitchen is right next to the room the birds are in, and that is exactly what I do. While I am cooking and while we are eating the birds are in their cage. We eat in the same room as them, and I feed them some of our meal at the same time (when it is suitable). This way they still feel part of the family, but they arent fighting us for the best bits off our plates:P
