LindaMary
Hi again and thanks for all the welcome notes! I am having a little trouble figuring out how to navigate my way around this site, but I trust I'll get accustomed to it in time. In answer to some of your questions: I have a 17-month-old Timneh called Maximum Nymphodora (she goes by "Max"). (My almost-13-year-old daughter Mary does all the naming of non-human family members in our household.) Max joined us about a year ago: "us" being myself, my daughter, two cats (who are kept separated from her!) and a rabbit, whom she seems to rather like. I had been fascinated by Greys for literally decades, but was never in a position to give a parrot any kind of reasonable home until last year. It was only when I started looking in earnest as a potential adopter that I learned about the Timnehs. What a great little bird! She's very mellow and a lot of fun. I'm very pleased to be meeting y'all. LovemyGreys : I actually have a shirt with that Mark Twain quote on it (Mark Twain also beeing one of my favorite historical people....) LindaMary
Yes, FairY - "Maximum" comes from the Maximum Ride books, which is an action series for teens/tweens about a group of orphans who were experimented on at a lab and are now part bird - they all have wings (and other less obvious avian characteristics. Their leader is a 14-year-old girl named Maximum Ride. (I enjoyed these books, too) "Nymphodora", of course, comes from Nymphodora Tonks of the Harry Potter series. Yep, that girl of mine loves to read!

Post edited by: LindaMary, at: 2008/08/15 01:

judygram
Hello LindaMary and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Max. I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond but I have been absent from the forum for personal reasons. My what a name for a grey, Maximum Nymphodora, I would end up calling it Max too for short but it is interesting to hear the many names some of us come up with for our pets. Read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and please do ask any and all questions you may have and we will endeavor to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. Be sure to share some pictures of your grey if you have any as we love to admire each other’s birds.
