BabyLoveGliders Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Hello!! I am getting a rescued grey.. and when speaking with the foster Mom she informed me that he was a severe plucker but since she has had him.. about a year.. he's just bald on the neck area and his entire head. She did say that she knows that African greys are prone to baldness as they age?? She said something like male pattern baldness when they get really old. because he's missing lots of feathers on his head..where he can't really reach himself to pluck. Have you ever heard of this? any feed back would be WONDERFUL!! thank you!
BMustee Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 hmmm...I've never heard of pattern baldness in greys...or any bird for that manner. How old is he and do you have any pictures? If I was you I would want him tested for PBFD because older infected birds are the ones that are bald, and a bald head is a red flag because they can't pluck themselves there.
BabyLoveGliders Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 We are not sure of age.. and no pictures yet.. hopefully tomorrow I will have some to post.. Thank you!
