Mansley
Dont know if anyone else has tried this but i used model training last night. It was incredible in the space of 20 mins i had harry who only mumbles hello to mumble and nearly perfect Thankyou when taking a treat. I really recommend this it works and harry enjoyed it too. Instructions Have another person sit with you and the parrot in a triangle. offer the treat to the person and make them say thank you. once they get it right give them the treat to play with or eat. repeat this a few times and every now and then make them get it wrong and dont give the treat or praise. Slowly introduce the parrot if he makes a noise at the right time give the treat and slowly make him/her try harder they will get closer each time. for the treat i used TINY amounts of cheese which i heard was good on here and harry loves it :woohoo: I cant wait to get back from work and do this again. Has anyone else tried this, had any success or found a way to take this to the next level? Jane08
We use it sometimes with both of our greys. We look at one of them and say what does a dog say and before she can answer our male butts in and goes woof woof. We then praise him. Again we ask her what does a dog say and she makes a noise and we say no and then turn to the other grey and ask him and he goes woof woof and we praise him. Finally after her seeing this a few times she gets the message and says woof woof. We haven't done it much, but we have sure noticed the competition between them and we use that to our advantage. Tycos_mom
This is the way they taught Alex and Einstien and it woorks for alot of diffrent things they can taught what objects are how to count just about anything you can think of can be taught this way. In the Wild they learn from watching other members of ther flock so when you teach them like this it is their natural way to learn

siobha9
I used model training to teach Liath how to give me somehting I don't want her to have. Simply offering her a treat in exchange for the item didnt work so I used my daughter. She would give me something and I would give her a pine nut etc. Then after a few rounds I included Liath in the game. It worked really well. And now most of the time I can get her to hand over her prized possessions. Note I said "most" of the time:laugh: !
