jaak198 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Hi, My African Grey, Kashmira (female), is 5 months old, I've had her since she was 3 months and she's grown into a really big healthy bird, the only problem is so have her nails. She won't let me clip them and when I try she gets really scared and flies off. I have heard that there are perches that I can get whereby I won't need to clip her claws at all? Firstly is this true and secondly will I really not need to clip them at all? If not then any suggestions as to what I can do? Ali
lovemyGreys Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 If you have never clipped a parrots nails please dont attempt to,Inside every toenail is a blood supply, or "quick". If cut, this will begin to bleed and can be very painful. If they need clipping take her to the vet. Yes if you offer a varitety of different perches this should keep your parrots nails filed down,i have 4 greys & they have never needed their nails cut.A sandy perch is great for filing nails, but a variety of different textured perches will also exercise her feet.I see your in the UK, i have included a link so you can have a look http://www.24parrot.com/Parrot-Perches-C252/
jaak198 Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I am from UK and there aren't any forums like this in UK which is a shame as this one is really helpful and useful. Ali.
