My cockatiel says, "hello pretty bird" but no other words. He wistles tunes but I messed him up as I have no tune. Our cockatiel's name is TRex. He is appx. 5 yrs old. I was wondering if you ever had a bird who said nothing or just a little begin to pick up speech from a new arrival.

Absolutely, positively. Just think about how they learn things in the wild....from each other. They learn EVERYTHING by watching and listening their peers/parents. Just give it time. He'll figure it out, esp. if he figures out that you pay more attention to him when he does make those sounds!

Oh yeah, if you give a good reaction whenever he says a new word of course he will want to repeat it to get that warm reception out of you, they love to please.

They can and do learn new words all the time.
