Trustdace Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Here's Congo's first bath. We had a blast! I haven't laughed so much or so hard in a while. The wife and i got wetter than Congo did. Hope you enjoy the pic.:woohoo:
lovemyGreys Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Trust perhaps a spray bottle would have introduced him gently to bathing How did he react ?
Trustdace Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Yeah you're right lovemygreys I originally wanted to get a spray bottle but I forgot it today when I went to the pet store and I didn't want to prolong the bath. But Congo did ok. Next time I will use the spray bottle.:side:
lovemyGreys Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 No you did fine, they need to get wet at least twice a week to help maintain the feathers in good condition, bathing tends to be followed by a good preening session. If you get a spray bottle. then spray above Congo's head so the water falls down like droplets
Trustdace Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Thanks lovemygreys for the advice will do. The plummage looks a lot nicer after the bath.
lovemyGreys Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Yes they do look & feel softer after a good soak, just like us humans
BaxtersMom Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hi Trust, love the pic of the first bath. I seen suggestions about the spray bottle. I have one and have used it on Baxter a couple of times...It just doesn't seem like he is getting enough water that way. The mist just rolls off. It looks like yours got good and wet and I might try it with Baxter in the sink, too when he's a little more comfortable with us. Did yours enjoy the bath though?
lovemyGreys Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Spray it harder I have 4 greys who get soaked to the skin using a spray bottle
Carolyn Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hi Roger, cute pic. I bought a rubber bath mat from the dollar store cut it into four and place it over the drain in the sink that way if they do happen to walk around or try to fight the bath there foot cant get caught in the drain hole. As soon as Mika sees his mat and the spray bottle hes ready for the sink.
Trustdace Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Well what I did was I placed him in the sink and softly let the water roll off my hand onto h/her. At first it started squaking and flapping wildly, it knocked the sponge to the floor and water was spraying everywhere. I managed to calm it down for a few seconds and put Congo directly under the water but just his feathers not the head. Congo was going bananas again and was trying to bite the water...lol! My wife was filming the whole thing and getting wet at the same time. My daughter took the pic and I wrestled Congo keeping him in the sink. The whole ordeal lasted about 2 minutes. I managed to wet his head by wetting my hand and then rubbing his head. I did try to wet underneath the wings and did get some water under them. I think we did ok for the first time. Next time I will have a spray bottle and a rubber mat.
Lyric Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 She didn't know what hit her did she? Love the picture and thanks for sharing your experience with us! Mine get baths with the spray bottle method- your hand will be tired by the time you are done (especially if you have lots of birds!) but it's so good for them. Good job!
judygram Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Congo does look a little perturbed but she will get over it, maybe you can try doing it in the shower, I do Josey that way but thanks for sharing the pic of HER, I just love the fact that she is a she and I was right.
Trustdace Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 Yes Judy you were right and I think I will get her a shower perch when she gets used to her bath. Anyway how many baths should I give her a week or a month?
