Ok, Not an expert either. But I had 2 african grey's sofar and the 1st one flew away. Not long after I got myself another.

What I have learned is to feed them "Exact-Hand feeding Formula" as long as possible. Keep them away from large pieces of food unless they are up to date with weight. This is because when they learn how to use their feed to eat they get stubborn. Meaing that they wont eat their much needed grow suport.

I can tell you right now that when I bought the first parrot it was only 450 gramms before he departed. Now having a 2nd one, I changed all restrictions and its "on-par" with a real parrot feeding the "puppy"

So, yes, I have got now a 1 month younger parrot who's weight AND seize exceeds all I have ever seen sofar...

Oh, yes! And he is Soooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeet!

Shazbaby36 welcome here B)

At 13 weeks I've read and re-confirmed right now on google - your bird should be eating once a day and the feed (handfeeding that is) is usually consisting of formulas. Some names seem to be especially popular -although I, personally, have no experience with them- like Kaytee Exact for example.

Maybe other posters who have handfed their babybirds can elaborate more about this :)

Hi there,

After you get through the handfeeding routine and you are ready to get your bird on a great diet get him weaned to Harrisons Adult Lifetime High Potency. This is considered by many to be the best pelleted diet available. The sooner you get your bird on this the better. If your bird never ate a single sunflower seed that would be great..

In addition to the pellets what I do is every morning to take a handful of frozed veggies, nuke them in the micro and feed them to Ceaser by hand. He loves the attentions and eats the veggies with a gusto I feel good about. I know that at least I am giving my bird what he needs to remain happy and healthy..

Here's another look at Ceaser.. Good looking boy.. No?
