Qweevox
Hi, this is a tough question. I think noise is relative. African Greys, at least CAG’s are not noisy birds for their size, well…not as noisy as certain Amazons anyway, and certainly not as noisy as a Conure. With that said, some Greys can become enamored with the most bizarre sounds. My CAG picked up a certain annoying alarm clock I had in college…ten years later, long after the alarm clock bit-the-dust, my Grey would still remind me of that clock…loudly. It also depends on the individual personality of the bird. I had a friend who had a CAG that was as quit as a mouse…only clicked every now and again and never talked. Do they make noise? Sure, but unless your apartment walls are very thin I don’t think a Grey is going to be a problem. Good Luck! I just thought about something you could try...if you have good computer speakers. Play a few of these videos loud and see if it bothers your neighbors... funny videos This one is really funny edited by: Qweevox, at: 2007/03/14 07:

zooman
I truly believe that the bird will be as loud as the environment thats around. If you have a loud lifestyle than they will be too

M2MM
Some neighbours are very fussy and won't stand for anything noisier than goldfish. Best to rethink having a bird at all, if you are concerned about disturbing an upstairs neighbour.
Jane08
We live in an apartment with 2 greys and yes they can be noisey. For us it is not true "If you have a loud lifestyle than they will be too". We have a very quiet lifestyle, but greys have their own times when they are loud especially in the mornings when they are calling the flock together. So they are quite loud in the mornings when we let them out and then in the evenings as well. It's not like it goes on for hours or anything, maybe 10-30min at a time and this is usually when they are playing so it's not like they sit on the perch for 30min and scream. It's more like loud playing noises. It has been a year now and the neighbours haven't complained yet (fingers crossed), but then again Swedes don't complain to your face they are more likely to leave you a post it note at your door. zooman
guess im speaking from my own perspective with my Timneh its all about being heard. Yes they arent just being totally quiet but what i meant was that if theres like my A/c on plus tv he is much louder thats the point. my Alexandrine and Grey are exceptions to the moring noise sure they do chirp, whistle etc, but honestly havent heard anything anyone would or should complain about. If they complained id whistle all day to teach them!!haha kidding. but depends on your neighbours as well. I hear budgies upstairs so find out with your building about their policies.
