Goku
Hi everyone. I have a male grey that is 6 months old and his name is Archie. Ive had his wings clipped twice since having him at an oldschool doctor, unfortunately the old doc has moved on and I had to make use of a new doctor. The old doctor used to clip Archie's wings in what he called the "Modern European Contempary Clip", with this clip Archie was able fly about 5 meters. The new doc completely changed the clipping style and now Archie is unable to fly at all. He littely falls to the ground like a stone. These falls resulted in him getting a big scare. He only sits on his cage and does absolutely nothing. Hes gone quite, he doesnt whistle his fav tunes, he doest play, he just sits there. I was wondering if there is any advice from you the greyloving community on how I can get Archie back to his old self asap and how long it will take for him to grow his wings back and how soon can be airborne again?? lovemyGreys
I'm sorry that Archie has had to experience a bad wing clip. This has obviously had a big impact on his confidence ,he has no idea as to why he has lost his flight so it's no wonder that he has withdrawn himself a little. The flight feathers will come back naturally through the molt but as it sounds as if all were clipped /damaged I'm afraid it may take anything up to a year.Just spend time with Archie,playing,talking,etc.. to try & help him regain his confidence. If he is falling, try padding out the floor with soft cushions etc,so he has a soft landing. prrthead
I am so sorry that Archie had such a bad experience. My Echo also had a bad clip and when he tried to fly he didn't quite fall like a rock but did not land correctly and cut his chest right on his breast bone. He has been on medicine and an iodine wash twice a day for about three weeks now. It has been very difficult on both of us as for my vet told me he had to stay in his cage until he heals, even when it is healed it will be at risk of spliting again as the new tissue is not as strong. Please follow the advise of padding the area around his cage or where ever you place him. Our best to the little guy. Mary and Echo
