Mel
I can think of a few. Research to the nature and demand of these pets as they are time consuming and will outlive us. Make sure you have a local vet. Make sure you price cages, travel cage and gyms. All 3 are pertinent.;)Oh yeah, if you don't own a home you better make sure your landlord is alright with it. I personally don't think this is a pet for anyone not established yet like college kids. They need to concentrate on school and career. Hope this helps.

Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/17 22:
casper
A couple of other things to consider, the hours you work, is your bird going to be left for long periods of time alone? Vacations/Holidays, do you know anyone experienced enough to look after a grey as there are many things someone would need to know and some greys are not good around strangers. Spend time reading through the different threads on here about owning a grey, its always best to do your research or speak to someone who owns one. Good luck. Caroline. Anmlhggr
What info you've gotten is absolutely true! Grey's take lots of time and attention, at least 4 hours EVERY DAY!, out of their cage and playing with you. Grey's also require special vet care, so make sure there is an avian vet near you that you're willing to travel to, not just for regular visits but maybe in the middle of the night for an emergency. Vet visits for grey's are very pricey, cages are also very expensive and so are playstands, and you need multiple toys as well...oh and food like harrison's pellets are not cheap either. Grey's are high matience pets, but they are so worth it! Basically, an easy way of thinking of it.... having a 3 year old child.
