Hi Carissa welcome here :)

I hope you'll enjoy it and find useful tips (I can't imagine you can't find those here :P )

What specific point did you exactly wanted to know about timnehs?

Since I've not been in that situation I'm afraid I cannot give you any advise on that, but somehow I think this is a personal choice relating to what it is you like ;)

I'd certainly go for one Grey only - (unless I'd be away from home a lot during the day) - but again: I still think that is something that your own preference should decide on.

(Sorry  I'm not much of a help here, he?)

Of course, it’s all personal choice. Two Greys are going to be twice the one-on-one time, twice the cage cleaning time, twice the vet bills, twice the food…you get the picture. You didn’t indicate your experience with parrots. If you’ve never owned a parrot before you might want to start with one…just my two cents.

The weaned vs. handfed debate is a hot topic. It really depends on your experience and knowledge level. Taking on a handfed bird is a lot more complicated then just using a syringe. You can kill a bird by feeding it incorrectly. Then there is the “time” consideration. A bird that is not mature enough to eat on its own requires more time and care…so again it’s really a personal choice. Most people would recommend that you not take on a handfed bird, and many breeders won’t even allow their birds to leave without being weaned first.

Good Luck!

Thank you all for your advice. We went to the New Orleans Bird Show over the weekend with thoughts of getting a grey. However, we fell head over heals for an eleven week old Vosmaeri Eclectus(we take her home in four to five weeks, once weaned). We had gone to a booth to discuss the grey on the breeders shoulder, when Jolie (the Eclectus he was selling) dazzled us. After talking with the breeder, we decided to wait on a grey. We are new to raising birds and feel that an Eclectus is the right choice for now. Thanks again for all your advice!!! ~Carissa

Carissa, I wasn't familiar with the breed you bought so I looked it up. Gorgeous bird!! Since you said you would take HER home in a few weeks, I'm assuming you selected a female. The females look like a huge jewel box. Truly beautiful. Good luck with yours -- I'm sure you must already be in love!
