Toys made of coconuts or fleece

The search here came up empty. Are fleece items such as braided vines/rope ever used or safe? What about coconut huts to hide stuff in? Does anyone here make their own toys or have some good links? Thanks!

Fun post. Thanks. I have heard not to use rawhide. I can't remember why but I see it used on toys that shops sell. Are the dog chains made of stainless steel and not galvanized? What about the colored items like the wooden beads? Are there precautions with dyes or paints used? A big concern I have heard about making items is the legnth of rope as not to get caught up and to hang itself or break something trying to get loose. I'll post some pics of my toys for advice when I get the hang of posting pics better. Hehe. You've been such a help. Mel

Mel i use the rawhide & many parrot toys are sold with rawhide. As for the dog chains i wouldnt know hopefully Connie will see this post & be able to answer.Coloured bricks, beads i always purchase from the baby store or toy shop that why i know they are coloured with non toxic paint. You could use plain wooden blocks & if you wanted to add colour use a vegetable dye ;)

when i make toys with rope i tend tend to only have a 2 or 3 inches of the rope exposed,as with all toys they need to be closely supervised & removed once they look a little worse for wear.

I have been drilling shells, dice and making swings of PVC and chain. I can't wait to put together more toys. I want to be able to just reach in a basket and pull out something new for him weekly.

Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/14 10:31
