thomasevensen Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Hello! I am a 28 year old norwegian looking into buying a pair of african greys. Breeding is the ultimate dream, but the birds themselves are just so nice and interesting. I have found an owner of 2 greys who are selling because she is very ill. The male grey is 5 years, and the female grey is 2,5 years. They come along quite well, i am told, and they share the same cage. What are the odds for these greys to breed, if all known rules followed, regarding to their age etc. They have not lived together for more than a year, but are now getting along much better than they did. How old must the female become before she is mature enough to breed? Greetings, Thomas Evensen
Guest Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 OK, first: are you sure it's a male and female? then, after establishing this 'fact' - sit back and wait  because I've read that the average age of becoming of fertility for African Greys is about 5 years.... and, as you know since it's the same in the human world: it all depends on the female
DaffyToons Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I agree with FairY. Just because they cohabitate together, doesn't mean they're going to "get it on." Ha ha! I have several pairs of birds that cohabitate, but their relationship is strictly platonic.
