KnLMedlin
I am having a problem getting my grey off the seed diet. I have tried exact pellets, both colored and regular dog food look exact, and she still wants seeds. She got to the point she wasnt eating nothing but seeded diet or nothing at all. She was actually loosing weight and whinning because she was hungry. So now I am back at hand feeding formula again to help gain her weight back. She is eating about 10cc of formula a day along with her seeds and fruits and pasta. She is doing good with her formula and now satisfied again. Any ideas on how to get her switched over??? Thanks!! judygram
Are you offering her any veggies, grains or legumes? She needs some of those in her diet daily. Have you tried soaking her pellets in apple juice or mixing with some applesauce or baby food and feeding them to her that way? Just some suggestions for you to try in case you hadn't already.
lovemyGreys
It's not imperative that she goes onto a pellet diet, my four greys eat seed, fruit, Veggies, pulses & a whole host of things like rice, pasta etc... You will have to just keep offering them to her, try soaking them a little to soften them up, always offer new foods to your grey in the mornings when she is at her hungriest. Here is a link for offering new foods.. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/53831-tips-for-getting-your-grey-to-eattry-new-foods.html Please have a good read through the various topics in this bird food room . bettyboop
Hello, I purchased a stainless steel skewer from DrFosterandSmith on line and I place chunks of apple , banana, collard greens broccoli, peppers , etc. on it ,and my birds go after it .You might also consider a foraging cup with healthy food inside or wedging apple etc .in the sides of cage .They love to forage for their food. Then you can keep the pellets , seeds , nuts in a bowl alone. Good luck , Mary

Post edited by: bettyboop, at: 2008/06/05 03:
TinyTimneh
this may sound silly but have you tried eating them with your grey? if your grey has been eating nothing but seeds his/her whole life she may not realize they're edible. maybe if you eat a few (they don't taste too bad, kind of tasteless actually) in front of her and make a big fuss about how yummy they are maybe your bird will be tempted. also, is there some other bird, person or animal in the house the grey views as a rival? get them to eat (or pretend to eat) the pellets and make a big fuss over them when they do. lastly, maybe you could hand them to her as if they were a treat from your fingers, even if she just grabs them to throw them, praise her for taking/playing with/exploring the pellets. good luck!
