Laurie Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 It's funny how you can assume everyone must know who you're talking about! The Detroit Red Wings are our NHL hockey team. Does anyone play ice hockey in the UK? Almost all the players here are Canadians, Russians, Czechs and Swedes.

Laurie Posted June 7, 2008 Author Posted June 7, 2008 This is AWESOME! It's the 4th cup since I've been old enough to know...but it's thrilling every time. There was a parade here for the Wings today and 1.4 million people showed up!

We also have the biggest fireworks show in North America and some years close to that number show up for that. Here's one more thing that is cool, then I promise I will shut up and try to keep my comments to the topic of greys...:laugh: I read this in the paper this morning about the Cup: (From a Montreal newspaper article describing the first game for the Stanley Cup in 1894) (1894!) "The hockey championship was decided tonight, and never before in the history of the game was there so large a crowd or so much enthusiasm. There were fully 5,000 persons present at the match; and the tin horms, strong lungs and a general rabble predominated. The match resulted in favor of Montreal by three goals to one. The referee forgot to see many things. The ice was fairly good." 5,000 persons? LOL A "general rabble"? Gotta love a "general rabble". It's amazing - a tradition since 1894. I'm so proud to be a part of it if only as a fan.
