mas Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Hello all! I want to put natural perches in to Zahzu's cage, and I've got a dried up Eucalyptus branch; however her cage is quite wide and if I want to keep the branch in one piece I can't fit it in my oven to sterilize.... Is it ok if I wash it with hot water and special 'birdy' disinfectant or does it really need to be roasted? Eucalyptus is safe isn't it?? Just thought I'd double check! -Sameera
judygram Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Sameera, I have included a link to a site that gives the safe and unsafe types of wood and Eucalyptus is on the safe list. I don't know about sterlizing it but I think the site included a link to more information so maybe that is there too for research. http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2008/05/28 17:57
Tycos_mom Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Vinagar and water will disenfect and will not hurt the wood in any way also 1 part bleach to 10 parts water will also do the job then put them in the sun to dry for 2 day to let the bleach evporate if you use vinagar rince really well the bleach too for that matter but the sun will work to dry them in 2 days all will be good
