siobha9 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I am just wondering is anyone else studying at the moment? I have just finished a nightmare assignment with about 30 minutes to spare (deadline was midnight) and I am wondering is it worth it. I am almost 40 years old, 3 kids in school and I have spent the day with my face stuck in text books:( Are there any other loonies like me on the forum?
judygram Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Yes I am loony or was, I went back to school and graduated a month before my 50th birthday so have been there and done that, I am proud of you for what you are doing, takes guts and yes it is worth it and it is never too late.:cheer: B)
siobha9 Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 What did you graduate in? Are you using your degree? I still have a year left
lovemyGreys Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 You just stick at it siobhan, YES it is worth it & i admire you for doing so
siobha9 Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 I will admire me when I am finished Its just hellish when I have a deadline and I havent put the work in. Oh well, its gone in now... On to the next assignment... each time I say I will be more organised and do the work in advance, and each time I am panicking on the last day
lovemyGreys Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008  Well get yourself organised & you wont be sitting around all day trying to meet the deadlines
judygram Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Yeah woman, get your butt in gear:laugh: I went to a Community college as I only had a high school diploma and got an associate's degree to be an administrative assistant and yes I am using it.
Laurie Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I would LOVE to go back to school! I don't have the time or the money right now unfortunately. I do have a 5th grader, though and I help him with his homework. We recently did a science fair project and took 3rd place! That's right! I'm bad! Uh-huh! Anyway, what are you studying exactly? I have a 4-year degree in Finance which I'm not really using (I'm an Administrative Manager - whatever THAT is). I wouldn't mind going back for my Masters or maybe something else entirely.
siobha9 Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 3rd place?? Well done son...er mom... er... anyway well done I have done lots in the past 3 years. I spent 20 years working in computers and hated it so I am working on an honours degree in psychology, which I finish next year, I have just gotten a diploma in Counselling and I am now doing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Diploma. Oh and I got a Cert in social science as well, whatever THAT is??
Laurie Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I know - it was funny with the science project - I think all the parents were wondering how we did! =) Psychology, Counseling and Cognitive Behavior Therapy sound very cool. Very interesting. I envy you!
siobha9 Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 On the surface they are all very interesting, unfortunately the detail we have to go in to sometimes seems pointless. I am studying the brain in psychology at the moment, and honestly, I am not going to be a brain surgeon any time soon, so why do I need to know so much about it. Imagine the situation.... Mrs Murphy comes in to complain about her marriage to Paddy... and I say, well I think the problem lies in the basal ganglia, located in the telecepahalon rather than the inferior colliculi in the tegmentum  Now if I inject some [11C]Raclopride I can run a Positron Emission Tomography to be sure. :silly:
