tabbytai
Just purchased our baby this afternoon! He was hatched on April 9th, won't be coming home until early July... so long to wait. "He" is so cute and alert, was looking around and seemed really curious. I couldn't put my hand near him without a little snuggle and a kiss. He was really hungry and ate well while I watched, has nice feathers starting and looked very clean and healthy overall. We are very excited. I have included a picture so you can see how cute he is! judygram
"He" looks healthy to me too, and I assume you will have "him" DNA tested so you can either stick with the he or go with she.:cheer:
lovemyGreys
He/she is lovely, you will have to update this topic so we can follow your baby with you
judygram
Every time you go to visit him/her you can take some pictures and post them in this thread and we can follow the progress of development, it is so interesting to see them grow and change. tabbytai
Yes, Judygram, we would like to have our baby DNA tested but want to wait a little while (a week or two). The breeder suggested it for some reason... I think it is because the clutch just moved from her home to her shop and she wants to make sure they settle in before having scary needles stuck into them! judygram
I can understand that and you do want to know before you give him/her a name but there is plenty of time for that.
Tycos_mom
Your new baby is sooooo sweet I love babys. I only had two babys out of my flock of 6 all the rest are Rescues and Even my baby Cockateil that I got before he was even weaned was left on my doorstep with a note so you might say I rescued him as well he's 6 months old now and the sweetest bird you could ever ask for Pat
Char
What a beautiful baby! I would wait until the first vet check-up for the DNA since they will have to draw blood for the first well check anyway.
lovemyGreys
You can DNA from a feather sample, less traumatic than drawing blood
tabbytai
Wow, I didn't realize they could DNA from a feather sample. I'll ask about that. If that isn't an option for some reason I'll definitely wait until the first check up when they have to draw blood anyway. Here's a neat thing: One of my students is from Africa, the same region where the Timnehs are from! She is going to help me come up with a name from her native language of Mandingo. My bird will have a really authentic name! I'm excited about that! Thanks for the advice on the DNA sexing.
siobha9
That is a great idea. Then you can name her or him even before you get the DNA results. Best of luck with your new baby, July cant come soon enough for you!!!
tabbytai
Quick update on my baby: I still don't have a suitable name chosen but he's doing great. I get to visit all the time and this afternoon was the first time he recognized me and came over to get me... I was so pleased! He is getting feathers quickly and is more and more gregarious every day! Today he was eating cheerios and his first taste of pellets! Growing up fast... Does anyone know good games I could play with my baby at this young age to encourage him to nibble on toys, not me and just to develop our bond? I would like to try and work on something right away that is simple and fun for him...

tabbytai
ClaireBear, My baby is at Pet Paradise. Sally is so wonderful! She has so much knowledge! You should check out my baby next time you are in. His name is Dudley. We still have to wait to get him home but visits have been fun. Sally even lets me bring my little dog so they can bond as well. Thanks for the well wishes! Perhaps I'll see you around!

tabbytai
My bird just came home this afternoon!!! I am so excited to finally have her here! It has been a long wait! Dudley (I know it is a boy name but we made the mistake of naming her BEFORE we had the DNA test done. Not such a good idea... Dudley just stuck) was very quiet on the ride home and seemed pretty curious about the new environment. When I opened the crate she came right out and began to look around. She sat on her perch for only a few minutes before she began to start exploring. I am very pleased. She seems to be taking the adjustment well so far. She was making little noises and drank water although she hasn't eaten yet. She doesn't like the dog... growled fiercely... that will pass I am sure. Just wanted to update everyone... I am happy she's here.

judygram
Congrats on bringing the baby home and usually babies adjust to a new home quicker than an older bird would, can't wait to see some more pics:P
