novato
I feel really stupid. I should have read this forum before doing an impulse buy and buying a baby grey. I wanted to know if anyone had pictures of what the baby grey's crop looks like when its full and empty. My baby is 2 months old. I spoon fed the baby and I stopped when the baby didn't want anymore food, so I want to know if I fed him enough. I was told to feed the baby 3 times a day 50ml each time, but to make sure the crop waqs empty before feeding again. Thanks for all your help. I am glad I found this forum. Sorry! siobha9
Don't be sorry, of course it would have been better to do your homework first, but at least you are here now Unfortunately I can't help you personally because I got my babies weaned. There are some threads in this room on handfeeding that could help you though. Some of our baby experts will be along later and can probably help with pictures! Welcome by the way, and feel free to ask questions!

Post edited by: siobha9, at: 2008/04/28 10:
parrotlady
Here are a couple of photo's showing a full and and empty crop. The only problem is that as the chick grows and their feathers develop it becomes harder to visualy see if the crop is full but you can tell by touch. Also as the baby gets older and starts to feed itself more the crop won't buldge like it does when they are very young as the food is getting eaten over a perdiod of time and not all in one go. Falconeer
You bought a baby on an impulse. Well now that you already got it, PLEASE read as much as you can on the babies and African Grays in general. Make sure the crop empties atleast once a day between feeds. You can read my post on Hand Feeding Dangers. And another by lovemygreys in this Nursery section as well. It is also time to start introducing your baby to real food as fresh veggies, fruits, bread some egg etc... Locate a vet in your area and see if you can talk to him for a little guidance. They are a lot like human babies. Wish you luck. Keep us posted and can we see some pics pleeeeease?:side:

Post edited by: Falconeer, at: 2008/04/28 17:
