coopersmom
I am new to greys and cooper is still in transititon so I know he will eat diferently once he is comfotable. But how do you know how much to feed them. I give him some toast in the morning with light jam on it. should he be getting a whole slice of toast half etc. I have not yet been able to find any topics for this. how much apple or fruit. If I buy him some mashed potatoes and bring them home how much is too much? I got them at a restaurant so they have probably have milk and some butter so that makes me nervous. Wow so many questions on one topic. thanks in advance for your help I am sure I will have many more questions to come. Coopersmom:unsure:
lovemyGreys
Hi, is your Grey on a pellet or seed diet ? In the morning i would offer slightly more than a piece of toast, offer this in addition to perhaps a mixed bowl of fruit or some oatmeal.During the day mine have access to food at all times be it pellets or a good quality grade parrot mix.In the evening they have dinner, perhaps a jacket potato with veg, mashed potato i would advise without the milk & butter,Before bedtime they will eat to fill their crops before they roost, again mine have free access to their seed once they have eaten their evening meal. There are many topics in the bird food room, please have a good look around.you will soon come to see & judge how much cooper is eating. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/24030-whats-your-greys-diet.html http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/53831-tips-for-getting-your-grey-to-eattry-new-foods.html http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/59809-complete-veggiefruit-list.html
coopersmom
thanks so much for your reply. I feel so stupid asking but do you cook up his oatmeal or just give him the oatmeal? He seems like such a small animal to eat so much and i guess that is what is throwing me off. When i got Cooper he came with a partial container of ZuPreem Fruitblend he also came with some nutriberries. But when i put the ZuPreem in his dish he throws it all on the floor. so it is hard to have food for him all the time. he seems to love apples so right now he is eating some of them but doens't seem to want lettuce or broccoli. I am so lost trying to figure him out and i am nervous that he won't be getting enough. Coopersmom
judygram
Yes you cook up the oatmeal, I offer Josey that too with a little veggie baby food mixed in. Keep offering him the veggies fixed in all kinds of ways, he may not eat them at first but he will eventually get to eating some of them. Maybe he doesn't like the Zupreem, why not try some other brands of pellets until you find one he likes, some will eat a particular kind and avoid any others. Do offer him some of what you have on your plate for dinner, just skim thru the threads for those things to avoid but most veggies, potatoes, any kind of pasta and rices and a little meat is fine to give to him. Tracy provided several links to threads that will provide a good base of information for what to feed Cooper and she knows greys for she has 4 of them.
