Tari
I so hate having to put dogs to sleep. I always second guess if it is time or not. But Thor my wolf is in pain the last few months. I can lessen it but can't seem to get rid of it. So my husband and I have been talking about it and thinking about it for the last two week and in the next few days we well be helping him cross over. He is a large dog and over 8 years old which is on the old side for most large dogs. We are now worrying about the other yard dog Lab/retriever mix and if she well adjust to being alone. She only 5 and been with Thor since she was 8 weeks old. We'll need to make extra effect to go out side with her. Wish she could come inside but she it crazy. Not bad crazy but happy crazy and way to much energy to stay in he house. Goodbye Thor we were so honored to be allowed to share your short life with you.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/07 02:

judygram
I feel your pain Tari, I had to put down my 18 year old cat on Saturday and it was a very hard thing to do but had to be done and I almost waited too long as her veins would collapse when they tried to insert the needle with the solution but thankfully they were successful and she drifted off. Sometimes this is the kindest thing we can do for our pets if they are in so much pain or in a debilitating condition but I will miss my Smokey as you will your Thor. sandra902
i am sorry to hear it is thor's time to go, tari, sometimes it is a hard decision and sometimes it is a very obvious one. one thing we have always done here at the monkey house is to lay out the animal on the footstool so the others can come to terms with it. however they process death, it seems to be easier if they can see and sniff the body. animals are so much more matter-of-fact than people are that we have found having the one lying in state makes them process it quicker. then nobody is roaming the house looking for the missing animal. just a little tip from us here who have had to help several little loved ones to the bridge. siobha9
I really feel for you both. I can't imagine having to make the decision to end an animals life. I have been lucky (or unlucky) enough to have all my pets die naturally, or with accidents. But really I would hate to see him suffer. And Judy if you hadnt decided when you did imagine how much worse it would have been for Smokey. Hugs Siobhan
Lyric
This is a very sad topic and our hearts are with you Tari. I have a 16 year old terrier mix and I fear for the day when I may have to make this kind of decision. All you can do is give them the best life you can while they are here and love them every moment. We'll be thinking of you.
