lovemyGreys
Hi Malika, we need more inforamtion in order to advise you.The most important command i feel as a grey owner is to teach them to step up, that way you will have control.Hear is a link on how to teach that command... http://exoticpets.about.com/od/behavior/f/birdstepup.htm
nevjoe
This a training Video that should help you see what to do. Replay it over and over so you will feel more able to deal with your birds. Joe edited by: nevjoe, at: 2008/04/06 06:
malika
they are 6 months old and in the process of teaching them the step up command the female is alot more tame than the male she willlet me pick her up but the male wornt let me pick him up without him biting me. i dont want to keep him in his cage all day but when it comes to getting him back in its a nightmare i try to give him a choice to step up before toweling
lovemyGreys
Personally i don't like the towelling method unless it is absolutely necessary.I think it can often have a negative effect on a bird. Can you try getting him to step up on to a perch/wooden dowel & replace him to the cage ? lovemyGreys
Yes let him have as much out of cage time that you can.Have you tried offering him a perch to step on when you get him out ? even if he just put's one foot on it,this is progress, praise or reward him for all the little steps he makes. It will take time & patience
Tari
Toweling is something all birds should learn is not a bad thing. You never know what you may need to do this. I can towel all my birds without chasing them. Some have learned to like it even. Are they housed in the same cage? If so he may be feeling his hormones even at his young age and until you have them both as tame as you like for them to be I would have them in their own cages and also have their own outtime. Does he have his wings clipped? It won't "fix" the problem but it can calm a bird down long enough to learn step up's and they well grow back if you want a flighted bird. Good luck
malika
his wings are clipped and was when i got him. he came to the door tody but didnt climb in the cage but is progress because before he used to move to the corner at the top of his cage. ive give them scedual out of cage time for about 6 hours a day. then when its timr to go back in i say bedtime and the female goes back in striaght away and i give her a treat and the male is watching so hopefully he will get the hang of it. they seem to copy of each other all the time. judygram
Yes they will and that will probably be what happens, he will copy what she does, just give him a little time and he will do just that.
