BMustee
I was going to say the same thing. B) You can also go to your Avain vet for a DNA test. I'm lucky, the pet store I work at offers DNA testing so I had mine done there.<br><br>Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2008/03/25 17:

BMustee
ummmm, yeah. Not much though. If a person walked in the store with a bird they got from a breeder or other store and wanted a DNA test done we charge $30, if you buy the bird at the store or work there in my case it's only $20. judygram
Berna, $20 is better than $30, that ten dollars will buy what maybe 2.5 gals of gas:ohmy:
rationalreasonz
http://www.vetdnacenter.com/avian-sexing.html This is the place that I used and it was suggested to me on this site. I sent the sample of blood in and in less than a week had results emailed to me and then a few days later received the little certificate in the mail. It costs 19 bucks which is not bad at all seeing as the vet in my area was saying 300. But anyplace that anyone on here recommends is good, because everyone on here knows what they are talking about
judygram
Thanks Melanie for another good site for DNA testing for cheap.
spookyhurst
Nikko's groomer took the blood sample and sent it in for me. It cost $30, and I got the results in a week or so. Unfortunately, I don't know where she sent the test. I think it was in the Phoenix area though. EDIT: I don't know if this is the place, but it's another option for you. I'll check Nikko's certificate tomorrow (she's asleep right now, and I'd be in trouble if I dug around in the bedroom for it ). http://www.petdnaservicesaz.com/Avian.html<br><br>Post edited by: spookyhurst, at: 2008/03/26 04:
PicassosMom
Has anyone gotten DNA results from a feather? The one site offers blood or feather testing. I like the idea of feather better because I don't want to hurt my new baby. Any thoughts?
lovemyGreys
Both of my boys were feather DNA sexed, My breeder prefers this method Here is the link...Maybe it will answer some of your questions. http://www.avianbiotech.com/questionsaboutfeathersexing.htm
Talon
I had Talon dna tested when what we thought was a HE at 1 1/2 years old. Our vet clipped her nail just a little too short, and did it that way. HE then 2 weeks later became a SHE!

BMustee
From my understanding you need more than one feather for testing. I believe they want like 5 or so from the chest area. Elmo had the nail blood test. I know how to do it but I had the girls at my work do it for me, I don't want Elmo to associtate nail cutting with me. We use Zoogene labs and I think they are based in AZ.
