I have a p'let. He is a a blue. Not tame at this time. But I have been working with him.

I did a lot of research and p'lets think they are amazons. Mine is very very aggressive right now cause it is that time of the year. But before he started that mess he was taking nibbles of my fingers and being very gentle about it.

As a rule they tend to be very nippy.

The one I had before DoodleBug (died when I had my Teflon accident see post on that if you have not already)

He liked to be out but would get very nippy. He did better away from his cage. He also talked some. He said Pretty bird and what you doing in a mickey mouse voice.

He and Doodlebug both were handfed but not trained to step up and were older so had not been fooled with in a while.

If you get one try to find a newly weaned bird or one that you can play with before you bring it home.

Hope that helps some.

Good Luck

I had a pair of Pacific parrotlets, bred them, ended up with 3 babies that I handfed. I kept one and sold the rest. He can laugh like me and says my dog's name, Sparky, and pretty bird, and hello. Like Tari said, they do tend to get nippy, I don't really know why. They are so pretty and cute and little though, hard to resist. They have big personality in a little bitty package. If you do end up with one, get a handfed one and just continue to work with it every day to keep it tame.

I have had parrotlets for 12 years. I would advise against bringing one into a home with small, uncoordinated children. They are just too fragile. Small children are not coordinated enough to handle parrotlets with the finesse and sensitivity these tiny birds require.

Just stumbling the wrong way or sitting down without looking can kill it instantly. Please think twice about this.

gusandgloria, thanks for yur post and i understand what you are saying, but all my children have been brought up with birds, budgies, cockateils and now african grey.

our yonger child is 4,and wouldnt be left unattended around any bird! big or small my children are never left alone around any birds,as we all know, children can be a bit clumsy, and birds can also be nippy, and it doesnt matter if you had the bird for years, one little fright could cause it to nip,so when my birds are out,im sat with the birds and kids. But i do understand what you are saying.
