Eggs

Hi, My Grey loves scrambled eggs. I have asked the man at the exotic bird store if this is okay and he seems to think that one egg a day is fine. This seems like too much to me, but my Diego waits for it every morning. He eats it like a freak, really fast, he begs while I am cooking it. I just hate to take it away from him, he enjoys it so much, but I am concerned that it is too much. He is a really fussy eater and picks the yellow pellets out of his food only and picks out certain things from his treats. Does any one else have a picky eater? Thanks:S

An egg a day may be a little much, Maybe you could cut it down to half an egg? Or everyother day...or even half an egg ever other day!! he would still be getting his animal protein and not overdoing it. Have you tried birdie bread or pancakes? Maybe you could offer these on alternate days to balance out the egg.

Terri here is a site that gives some good parrot recipes. They have everything there! Maybe you can mix it up a bit with some of the stuff you are giving him. It does take a bit, even if they just throw it around like My SweetHeart does, after a bit they finally do taste it and than start to eat it! I hated to make all of it and than waste a bunch but she is finally eating some other stuff now. Hope that helps ya!

Terri, have you tried cooking a little oatmeal and giving that to her for breakfast, Josey loves hers with a little red palm oil and some baby food in it.

I agree with the rest, an egg a day is too much, even half every day is too much, you do need to cut back or find a substitute to offer.

Thanks, I will try the recipes and oatmeal. I just know he looks forward to it everyday, so I feel bad not giving him what he wants, but his health is most important to me.

Post edited by: TerriW, at: 2008/03/07 18:05
