BirdGuy Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 My name is Chris and I am a new 'dad' to an African Grey I adopted from a local pet store. I have wanted one for years, but never had the nerve to 'bite the bullet.' Last year I adopted a a beautiful white faced pied cockatiel, and that experience gave me to courage to adopt Emmitt, my new grey. He is doing great... i have had him about 3 mos now. We have some issues to work out because the pet store clipped his wings before he was able to learn to fly... but we are working on that. I have very high ceilings in my home, so when he finally learns I may be buying a new, taller ladder.
judygram Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Hello Chris and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Emmitt. So you finally "bit the bullet" so to speak but so happy you did, it seems like a lot of us have wanted one for a long time before actually getting it. Now that you have your grey you wonder how come you waited so long:P We see a few of those greys where someone clipped the wings before they learned to fly properly and it will take a while before they grow out again enough for him to be able to fly, but it is important that he do so. They have to be able to land properly and they can't learn that if they can't fly. Take a few moments and read some of the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions if you have any. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Emmitt you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
Ronda477 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Welcome Chris and Emmitt. That will be fun for him to fly around with high ceilings! Hope to hear more from you and some pics too!
