Hello to all. We all know that Teflon can damage the lungs and be lethal. But is the food cooked on Teflon (without the bird being present) dangerous too? Can the bird eat safely the food?

I personally wouldn`t use teflon in my house or eat anything from a teflon pan. If you`ve ever noticed, with age or misuse, the teflon will start flaking off and the thought of consuming those toxic flakes disturbs me so there`s no way I`d serve it to my birds or dogs. While I do think some of these products have made out lives easier, I certainly don`t think they make our lives healthier. JMHO Trish in Dallas

Teflon cannot be absorbed into the body. The food is perfectly ok, for both humans and animals. However, when heated to excessive temps, Teflon will give off a toxic gas due to a molecular shift caused by the heat. If the flakes are ingested, they simply pass right thru. (Least you know they won`t stick to anything in there, eh? ha ha!)

Anything more than this is born of paranoia.
