siobha9
I know I am stone mad, but this morning I fell in love with a black headed caique with a sad story. He is one year old and his first owners returned him to the breeder because he was noisy! Apparently he had been demoted to the garden shed. Doesnt sound like he was much loved as the name they gave him was Freak. That definitely wont be staying! His new name is Zorro. I will post photos later... I have to go play with him. Amazingly he is still hand tame, really cuddly and really really playful. Gorgeous!
judygram
No you are not stone mad, you have MBS and it strikes us all I am afraid but congrats on getting a caique. I am not very familiar with them but they make great pets I hear. How awful to be banished to the garden shed and given the name of Freak, what could they have been thinking, but he has a new home now and a good loving one I am sure. I look forward to seeing pictures of Zorro, the gay caique, oh just kidding:laugh: so play with him a while then get us some pics please.
BMustee
OMG!!! I LOVE CAIQUES!!! It doesn't suprise me that he is still a hand tame and all. There has not been one that I have met that doesn't love everybody. They have the best temperment and they really are the clowns they are made out to be. I can't believe anyone could mistreat a caique, I mean, they are just the best.
MommaFawkes
Poor little guy! Im so glad you gave him a great home! They truly are great birds! I would love to add one to my flock, and I have every intention on doing it someday! I wish you the best with your new baby!!
judygram
With all them birds you do have, Tiffani, I am surprised that you don't already have one, I know if I get me another bird it may just be a caique with the raving reviews we have received here. BMustee
That is for sure the next parrot I get. The one that we had at my work was sooooo cute. We all would stick him in our shirt pockets upside-down so there would be this little caique butt sticking out! He would just be chatting away while he was like that too. I think he knew it made it even cuter. He would LOVE to be held on his back and have his feet played with too. Oh I could go on for hours about those guys! BMustee
{Feel-good-0002006E} I can just imagine what you were grumbling Judy..."darn you Berna...telling me about how great these little birds are...now I have to get one...I'll get you for this..."
judygram
You got it, Berna:laugh: There was an article in Bird Talk magazine one month last year about the caiques but I didn't pay it much attention, so this shows how much you guys influence me here on this forum. I can always use another clown to go along with the one I have. B)
siobha9
Ok I am back having played with him for 3 hours or so.... he is hilarious. I mean I love my greys but this guy is brilliant. So far he has made a rope out of my hair and swung himself in it. Helped himself to my daughters pasta. Ran up and down the kitchen table at 90 miles an hour cross legged. Stopped along the way to investigate everyone. Ran up arms, across shoulders, down the other arm and back onto the table. He just never stops. The last owner butchered one of his wings so he can't fly, I am not sure if he has ever flown, only time will tell when the feathers grow back in. (I say butchered because it is the worst clip I have ever seen, he has no feathers uncut on his wing). Judy you really need to look these guys up, they are brilliant! judygram
Oh boy now I get a testamonial from another bird lover but this guy does sound like a character. Thats too bad his previous owner clipped his wing like that but it sounds like he still enjoys himself and entertains everyone else along the way. Thanks for sharing his antics with us and be sure to keep us informed of his future haps and mishaps.
BMustee
He sounds JUST like the one at the store! I would have got him but he was $900...That’s more than I paid for my grey. I’m sure one day I will get one, I just didn’t have that kind of money to spend.

siobha9
I think I am going to need LOTS of energy to keep up with him. Last night I sat with the two greys doing the multi head rub. For those of you with one grey let me explain how it goes. One grey on each knee heads facing each other, and exactly the same movement on each grey, top of head, left cheek, back to head, right cheek and so on. So relaxing as they both close their eyes and nod off. So I am doing this and thinking about the antics of the little caique earlier, not a bit relaxing. He is a TOTALLY different kind of bird. But great fun  Siobhan
