Ronda477 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 And here is just a little more on him lol The Cayuga takes its name from Lake Cayuga, New York which makes it one of the few duck breeds with an United States origin. The Cayuga is a quiet duck that is very hardy and is known primarily for its brilliant “beetle†green plumage. The hens, which weigh 5 to 6 pounds, lay a light blue or gray egg and the males grow to between 6 and 7 pounds. Ducklings have black feet and bills, black down, and have an occasional trace of yellow on their breast. Just being funny! But it is a little about him lol.
judygram Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Well thanks for the biology lesson, Ronda, but I knew your duck wasn't a mallard LOL do you ever eat duck?
BMustee Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I love baby ducks! A customer brought in a baby duck the other day that they had found all by it's self and one of the girls that work in the Kennel knew how to take care of it so she took it home. If I get a house that I can have "barnyard" type birds in I'm getting peacocks and Lady Amhersts.
Ronda477 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 No I haven't had duck. Jessie wants to make that thing they call TurDuckHen. But we haven't had it yet. We have looked into getting some peacocks this year actually Berna. But afraid the raccoons will eat them! They are around $75 a piece and that is just too much to see eaten! Or run away lol.
Ronda477 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 And LOL Judy! I know you knew, was just being funny and getting to post lol. I figured you living out in the country would know lol.
Shamelessmuse Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Ronda, don't cry!! I think your duck is very lovely!
Ronda477 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 LOL Muse thank you! I think your little Sweet Pea is just adorable!
judygram Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Oh for crying out loud, I think you both are adorable and your duck and chicken too. I knew about the mallards because my hubby is a hunter and has bagged mallards before, I have a stuffed one on the wall along with the other mounts. We gotta get back to the topic and that is posting entries for the backyard bird contest.
Ronda477 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Flashback! Yes Ma'm! Sorry Ma'm! lol We were talking about the photos for the barnyard contest lol
2Girls Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 This is Romeo and Juliet. They arived one after the other at our town house and moved in. Lots of romance occured in the air ... but poor Juliet did not like any of it!!! I believe Romeo (darker one) is a Chinese Goose and poor Juliet, well we are just not sure.
2Girls Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Sorry pic was too big ... here goes hopefully. Romeo and Juliet

BMustee Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I live in a gated community...no barns around. If I still lived out in San Carlos Park I could have gotten a bunch of pics of chickens...they run wild there.
Ozzy Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Here is a picture of a Muscovy Drake that I received as a rescue this past fall. He has Angel Wing which is a deformity of the joint in the wing that renders him unable to fly. He was fondly named DD (devil duck) because he would chase you around and nip your feet and legs. He thought this to be a fun game, but it hurt! Anyway, I am a foster home for wayward ducks of all kinds and volunteer for a group in Phoenix called East Valley Wildlife. I have a lot of ducks, that being my specialty, that come in and out of my home while on their way to a forever home (for domestics) or safe release (for wild ducks). With Spring just around the corner I'll be plenty busy with orphans of all kinds. Ducks are fun and challenging. BTW, DD found a great home last month. I took him to live with another group of Muscovy ducks. He is really happy there. I do miss him, but not his game!

Post edited by: Ozzy, at: 2008/03/01 07:06
