Shamelessmuse
Okay, bird training I get. However, we are having a devil of a time with my mom's two P'lets. She has two, Merlin the little boy, who was sold too young and I had to teach her how to hand feed, which was done and then weaned. Maya the little girl was a bit older. They are both very nippy, breaking sking nippy. Maya has gotten better, but Merlin is a little devil! She handles them every night, but Merlin is a handfull! He bites and won't let go until he is chewing on a chunk of flesh...then he goes for more. She can't do the push back technique as they are just too little and they end up biting harder for balance:blink:...doesn't matter if you ignore it...he just keeps on keeping on...Does anyone have any advice? Distractions don't work as well...
Tari
First make sure they are not sharing a cage. Second stick training is very important with P'lets. Also when is this nipping going on? P'lets are tiny and need to eat often and can get nippy if you have them away from food and water to long. They also bite when they get tired so how late at night? Could you do it early evening instead? Of if that is the time how about an hour or so later then normal one on one time. Are they both out at the same time? Maybe they are jealous? Watch what your doing and what is going on when they bite. Are they giving you any warnings? Is it because you moved to fast? Could it be someone else got to close? ect... Good luck

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/02/21 01:
Shamelessmuse
Yea, they live together and she won't seperate them. She doesn't feel like she has enough time with them to seperate them and she doesn't want them to get lonely. I keep telling her that if she is going to keep them together it might be a lost cause. She does typially handle them in the evening and Maya isn't as bad as Merlin. Thanks so much!!
judygram
What if she had two cages beside each other, then they would be separated but still in sight of one another for company but Tari is right they will not be as tame if kept together.
lovemyGreys
Seperating them & working one to one may be the only answer, trying to tame both together is going to be exceptionaly hard .
BMustee
I don't have too much experiance with p'lets but from what i have seen when they have a birdie buddy they won't tame.
