Christo
My little guys hasn't passed on yet abut I can see it coming. When I bought him from a untruthful breeder, come to find out he had canaries pox. My Mom's bird died w/in 3-4 months of having him. Mine was suppose to, his rectum is very enlarged and the vet says his inards are very "squishy?". I have been feeding him healthly foods, real foods and he loves peas so I have been fixing his peas spiked w/wither some herb or another to help him keep healthy. It must be working due his still being here more than a year later. But on his last checkup he has several more bumbs on his chest and boy is his keep sharp sharp. So I guess the food isn't really getting into him. I have a heating pad under his cage, he's on the floor alot fluffed, but he still sings daily and still harasses me to feed him daily. Just recently he has been holding his one let up alot, on the side the newer bumbs have been showing. I don't know what to do, I don't want him in pain. Wouldn't he quit singing if he was that bad off????? I don't want to do it to soon nor to late. Gosh this is hard. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
lovemyGreys
Christo this is so sad you sound as if you have done a wonderful job caring for your sick bird. I can only say, ask your vet for his opinion, does he feel your bird is suffering ? Does he still have a good quality of life ? im sure in your heart you will know when the time is right. (( hugs to you ))
Christo
We lost our good avian vet and the one we have now, though she brags about her certification from Boston regarding all the schools for avian vets, she is afraid of most parrots. I can see bringing in my little Finnie and all she'd say is he's sick and it's up to you. She give's not passion, compassion or advice when it' comes to anything regarding our parrots. Its funny in a large city as ours how few avian vets there really are. We lost our last good one to the Colorado Zoo's avain section. BooHoo. But he is still singing and I just keep his cage on a heating pad. I either inject his favorite peas with Rescue Remedy or another that I can't come up with . Just love his songs. judygram
This is so sad Christo but you are doing all you can to make him as comfortable and happy for whatever time he has left, you have such a good heart. Even though you don't have many avian vets, I would seek out another one, this woman does not have what it takes to be a good one with birds. As far as his singing, as long as he seems to be ok and is bringing joy to you I think he is happy and you will know in your gut when the time is right to make another decision. My heart goes out to you and I will say a little prayer that he does not suffer any pain, god bless you Christo.
Christo
I thank you so very much. It really kills me regarding him. Since I have chronic pain and then my poor baby comes down with it. I can't compare him to me because I am able to put up with alot but I don't know about him. He's so frair. Thanks all again. Christo
