Ladybug01976
Has anyone here been owned by a meyers parrot? I was at petco today buying stuff to spoil the birds with and saw a just weaned meyers parrot they were selling i have heard lots of things about buying birds from petco and in my opinion they are overpriced on their birds and stuff but that baby was adorable.. Anyone have experience with them or know someone who breeds them.. What they usually go for weaned etc.. I just fell in love with that lil guy but they wanted $600 for him. BMustee
The Meyers parrot at my work is $550...and is about a year old. Parrot prices can very depending on the region you live in. Florida has some good prices on birds because there are so many breeders, but the midwest is pretty expensive because there is only a handful of breeders. ChickenDog
*** You may wanna take this topic to the other parrots section of this forum*** But YES! I do have a Meyers parrot, Scooby. I live in Minnesota, and I think i got him for like $450.00...... But I got him from a neibor who takes in rescue parrot and other animals. I wanted to get a pair of sun conures, but she had Scooby out. I went up to him and asked if he bit, stuck my finger right up to him. He hopped on, and she said ys she bites, i would do that...... She looked up and there he was, climbing all over me. She took him, and he took a chunk out of her finger. She parctically begged me to take him, because they just did not like each other. My first thought was that he was a pretty ugly bird.(Notice the pun, hehe.) But now hes my love bucket. He is VERY territorial, and while everyone who comes over is terrified of Char,(My TG)they think Scooby is cute... Unil they get close, that is...... Good luck,
judygram
ChickenDog, why don't you post a picture of your Meyers parrot for us to have a look at, I'm sure others would love to see him too. Scooby sounds like he was just waiting for you to come and take him home, I love these kind of stories where the bird picks you and not vice versa. ChickenDog
I really would put up a picture of Scooby, and Charlie my (TAG) but I cant find the plug that hooks up the camera to the computer..... And the only pictures I have of them are from a disposable camera, but I dont have a scanner... {Feel-bad-00020072} so....... i'll figure it all out soon! spookyhurst
I've always wanted either a Meyer's or a Senegal. They seem like they would be great little birds. I wouldn't buy from Petco though. It only encourages them to keep selling birds. I'd look for a reputable bird store, breeder, or rescue.

Christina
I bought a Caique from Petco (before I knew better, it was my first bird). Poor little thing was sick from the day we brought her home. I would NOT buy any bird from a huge store like that. I would look for a breeder or a store like BMustees. I paid top dollar for my caique, and spent triple that keeping her alive for the year she was with us. Yes, she only lived a year and by had respiratory problems the whole time. She was worth every penny, but I would pass on the Petco bird. JMHO.
BMustee
I'd never get a bird from a major chain store...I've heard to many things about them. And thanks Christina for the compliment on my store.
