casper
Hi everyone. Can someone please give me advice on what the correct thing is to do with pin feathers on the back of Charlies neck.I have read about them and it says to pinch the top of them to ease them out.Is this true? Also Charlie wont let me touch them I presume they must be quite sensitive or painful.
Lyric
Hi Casper: Some birds like you to help preen them in areas they can't reach and others don't. If you leave them alone, he will eventually get them open himself by scratching them and through the growth of the feathers. If he likes having his head and neck gently rubbed and scratched you can very gently open the ends as you said above by pinching the end, but don't do this if you think it's making him uncomfortable or if it is painful to him. Like I said though, if you leave them alone they will work themselves out just fine. That's just my advice though.
Ronda477
Yes Casper some do like this, our Quaker loves it! My husband just takes the pin feather and rolls it between his index finger and thumb, the usually come right out. And they are kind of uncomfortable for them, so just read how casper is doing and if he lets you than great. If not, like lyric said they will come out just will take a bit longer.
