Pics of my new Gouldian Finches

I got a few good shots of my Goulds, so I thought I would share! I didn't get any of one female because she is sitting on eggs right now and I don't want to scare her off them.

Beautiful star finch in there too! I have a beautiful pair of Gouldians. they keep laying eggs then abandon them, bury them and lay some more. Do you know why? They have a cage of their own, a nest, nesting material, green veg. and shredded carrots each day, plus egg mash. Good quality seed and vitamins in their water every day. The only thing I can think of is that they do not like to be in my bird room with lots of other birds. Any thoughts?

Thanks everyone...the last pick is my fav too. I love my Stars and just had 3 shipping in from Cali. The one in the pic is my 3 1/2 year old male...he is such a stud.:laugh: I need to get some pics of my Owl finches for everyone to see...they are my pride and joy out of my finches.

 

Birdgranna - Gouldians are notorious bad parents and there really isn't anything you can do when they abandon the eggs/hatchlings. It seems like you are doing everything right and being in a room with other birds wouldn't necessarily spook them off the eggs unless other birds are jumping onto their cage or there is something going on next to the cage they don’t like. Be sure that they are towards the back of the room because people walking by them could spook them as well. If you really want babies you might want to get a pair of Society finches and the next time your Gouldians lay take the nest out and put it in with the Societies. From what I have hear too is if you don’t want baby Societies a same sex pair will work just as good.

Thank you for the finch advice! Their cage is next to a conure so perhaps that is the problem. I did consider a pair of society finches but never thought of 2 the same gender.good idea.

If I ever get a pair of Society finches I'll get same sex. They are supposed to be just a prolific as the Zebras and I'm not going through that again...I had finches coming out the ying-yang and wholesale of them is only like 5 bucks a bird.
