I don't get mine online I usally get my cages when the bird fair comes to town. Hope to get a new flight cage for the budgies this year.

A powder coating makes cleaning the cage easier and it will last longer. Most important thing to look for when buying a cage is the bar spacing. The bar spacing should be at least 3/4 to 1 1/4 inch for parrots.

While visiting an Avian Rescue I seen a beautiful umbrella cockatoo that had a split beak. The owner of the rescue said that it had been housed in a cage where the spacing was too small and the bird had gotten its beak caught in between the bars. Now each month, they have to take it to have the beak trimmed. They may be able to have surgery preformed in order to have the beak grow back right. But for right now, it will be considered a permant resident, because most people does not want to deal with the expense.

I was told at the pet store that you have to know what they are coated with and if it is safe so if you buy online they said you really don't know. WOW,I thought this was the easy part. HELP Gail

If you buy "used" online, you might not know for sure, but if you buy a new cage from a reputable company online you can be assured of good quality and safe for the birds. A lot of people like the King's cages and Island Cages.

Your profile says you're in Ft. Lauderdale...one idea would be to call Parrot Jungle Island in Miami and ask if they know of any quality bird supply stores in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area where you could find a good cage.

Good luck! You can find good used ones though online but you have to personally check them out and I would clean thoroughly and spray them down with a disinfectant really well before bringing into your home.

I like the play tops - Kali spends a lot of time up there. His first cage had a dome top, and this one works better for him. Also, depending on your bird, I think bigger is better if you have the room. Kali is in a 48x34, and uses the whole cage.
