nikkismom
Hi all. I'm new here and searching for answers. My almost 20 year old grey, Nikki, seems to be going bald. She's had a small bare spot on the top of her head since I brought her home. (4 years ago) In the last couple of weeks the spot is getting bigger. She is not plucking them as she cannot reach them. The rest of her feathers are normal (beautiful as always). Can this happen with age? She is very healthy, never been sick according to her previous owner and my experience with her. Has anyone else experienced this with their greys? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Laura
MazyAK
nikkismom: glad you could join us. I know you will find mounds of helpful information from this wonderful group. I must admit a balding spot where it can't be reached has me a little stumped. It could be due to a molt, but it sounds like it's been there too long. Do you think you could get us a picture of this to look at. "Dave007" is one of our most knowledgeable family members and I'd track him down to get his input. I know many others will be helpful. That's what happens here. Isn't it great? Keep us posted and try to get a picture for us. Bruce & Mazy
lovemyGreys
Hi Laura, welcome , A bit of a strange one as you say your grey is unable to pick/pluck his own head, is it possible he has rubbed his head excessively on a perch ? i would advise a vet's visit if the patch is getting bigger just to rule out any skin allergies, please keep us informed
judygram
Hi Laura, I would suggest you take Nikki in for a vet visit and do a complete workup, there could be a medical reason for the bald spot. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and Nikki.
