Animalgreygail
The breeder said my new grey is 6 weeks old? says he should be on 3 feedings a day and to stick to it but the crop is empty in 6 hours. So i have been feeding him every 6 hours. We have had him a week. Should we start introducing him to food also now?
Hannah_Rae
Question...Why did you take such a young baby? Do you have experience hand feeding? So he's being fed 4 times a day instead of 3. Are you getting up in the night to feed? If the baby is showing interest in solids, let him try, but I doubt a baby that young is going to be able to handle solids for a little while yet. Mine is 12 weaks, and just weaned.... Sorry if I gave more questions than answers. I just need more info. -Hannah
Animalgreygail
Well it's a long story. I do dog rescue but this time it was a bird someone got that turned out to be too much. So we are learning Or trying to learn. They were told every 8 hrs 3x a day. We are not sure ifwe should listen to that. Yes, I'm getting up at night with my new child. I offered some mashed apple today and he did take some. BUT, I'm afaird. I don't want to make him sick. We are trying to do the best we can. Hannah_Rae
Wow, so someone else got a VERY young grey. I have never hand fed greys before, but countless cockatiels and other birds...If the baby is still wanting to be fed that much, I guess keep it up until further notice and keep encouraging semi-solids like the mashed apples, and baby food would be good too. The baby will give you cues. Just listen carefully. I too do dog rescue and have hand raised 3 litters of puppies from birth. WOW!! Good luck, keep up the good work. Animalgreygail
I'm not really doing the dogs or cats anymore I still have a site. It got to be too much. What other foods could I give him. Any kind of baby food? www.purebreed.petfinder.org
Animalgreygail
Where did you get your grey? do they sell them that young alot?
Hannah_Rae
Sell at 12 weeks? Yeah that's pretty typical as long as they are weaned, and each baby weans differently. I got mine from a very reputable breeder in lower MI. They did an awesome job of socializing her. As far as baby food, veggies and fruits only. And the fruit should be less b/c of the sugar content. Sweet potatoes seem to be a favorite. Just like with human infants, you can gradually increase the thickness and chunkiness as they get more comfortable with solids. Gradually, the baby will get used to more solid foods that are more interesting than the formula. Judygram can probably give you more accurate weaning info. She's a great resource. -Hannah
