Laurie
Ok, I bought a tiny jar of sweet potato baby food. Ingredient list: Sweet potatoes, water. I warmed it up, and broke up little pieces of whole wheat bread. Then I dipped the bread in and fed it to Klaus. He LOVED it! As a busy, working mom, I don't always have time to pick up and prepare fresh veggies for the bird, so I think this will be a convenient way to make sure Klaus gets a nice, nutritious treat! It was fun feeding it to him, and when he was done he just sat for a while making his "contented" noise (beak grinding).
nevjoe
Good job Laurie. You went out to be a great mom, and that was so smart of you. Good advice. Karma for you Joe

Laurie
Thanks, guys! Yes, I have noticed Klaus goes crazy for things that are soft & warm. He loves oatmeal, too.
judygram
Laurie, take some of that oatmeal and put a little baby food like the sweet potatoes into it and offer it to Klaus and see if he goes for that too.
Laurie
Hey, that's a good idea! I usually give him the bits of my oatmeal that haven't come into contact with the splash of milk I put in mine. If I make up veggie oatmeal, I won't have to pick through it for him. Thanks! ScubaJ
Yes, I started the Organic Gerber Babyfood as well! Echo loves most of them that she tried. Not only is it convenient, its cheap! Baby Food or Oatmeal is usually the breakfast of choice before I leave for work. As for flavors, its hit and miss. She likes some, doesn't touch others. Laurie
Yesterday it was squash! Mmmmmm... It's fun but messy. Klaus likes to give me kisses in the middle of it, resulting in squash all over my face and in my hair.
judygram
Yes it can be very messy especially if they have it all over the beak and then they flick it all over the place, what a mess!!!! :S
Marlene
I have been putting apple baby food into my grey's formula. He loves it but I'm gonna try your oatmeal thing with veggies - awesome idea - thanx. I never thought he'd go for the beby veggies but he's way past weaning age - maybe this will nudge him. Bailey
I talked to a CAG breeder here in Nebraska today and he brought up another good idea using baby food. They use it to convert new birds they get in to pellets.. Add pellets to baby food and daily ease off the babyfood gradually. This idea I guess works well with all types of warm smooshy food you can feed greys.
lovemyGreys
A good tip Bailey we often advise tempting your grey on to pellets by adding a tempting topping
Laurie
Today it was baby food squash over pasta! I was hungry myself & didn't want to sit and hand-feed it to Klaus with the bread, so I made him his own little bowl, and he enjoyed it!
