lilygrrrl
i have a sun conure and found this page via a search engine while trying to figure out whats going on with my nella girl. she is losing her tail feathers...the rest of her is in a molt so possibly thats what it is? right now she has only about3 tailfeathers left. is it normal for her to molt them all at once or should i take her to the vet? we have had no changes in the house and she is acting as normal as she always has lol so i really dont think she is stressed or plucking.the quill looks normal there is no blood. please help! nevjoe
There is no blood in the mature feathers, just the new ones comming in. My Double yellowhead has lost his, all at once also. The new ones are comming in now. If a bird breakes a mature feather pluck out the rest, it will grow back fast. Joe

Tari
I once pulled out ever single tail feather on my blue quaker female. When I had to catch her. Being a breeder she is not tame at all. It grew back very quickly.
judygram
My sun conure has never lost all her tail feathers at the same time, usually just a couple then later maybe a couple more. If you are concerned about it then take her in for a vet visit but like the others said they grow back in quickly. Don't you just love your little sun, I love mine.

BMustee
My sun would loose a number of tail feathers at a time when he would hit a heavy molt, and they always grew back pretty quick. One thing with the Suns is if their wings get clipped too short you can kiss that beautiful tail good bye. I took Otto to get his wings clipped one day at the store I got him from (not the store I work at now) and they butchered his flight feathers and he broke every one of his tail feathers because he would drop like a rock...needless to say I never took him back there again.
