BondsMom
How much food does a TAG eat? I'm wondering if I'm putting way to much food in her bowl and then thinking she isn't eatting much. I will give her an egg some mornings, along with a bowl of veggies, fruit and a few treats on the bottom of her cage. I also will put goodies for her to find around the cage... I'm at work all day and want her to have goodies during the day, but am I doing too much??? Help....
LisaM
A whole egg seems like a lot for one bird...how frequently do you give them that? Also, what specifically do you give for the treats and the goodies? I have found that my birds (CAG and 2 Eclectus) all consume between 1/4 and 1/2 cup of food each day total...and much of that is thrown on the floor for the dog or just out of the cage because they feel like it. There is always some left as they just take nibbles out of veggies and fruits and don't consume all their "dry" mix either. Sometimes the only evidence of consumption is the crumbs they leave behind. There are days when I think mine didn't eat hardly anything but then they look like they're always having a little bite of this or that. As long as her weight is good, I wouldn't worry about the volume of food she is eating as much as the quality and variety of the food she's getting. Unless she's overweight, I don't think having too much food in there is a problem for anything but your pocketbook! :-) Lisa
Hannah_Rae
Good question and reply. That was very helpful. I was wondering the same thing, especially after talking to Harrison's pellets this morning and her suggesting we buy 1lb bags until we realize how much our baby will eat. KatB
I put 1/4 cup of pellets and 1/4 cup of seeds in my TAG's bowls every 2 or 3 days. I had been wondering if I should cut back to just what he'll eat in a day, but he isn't consistent. Sometimes he'll eat it quickly, other times I'll empty the bowls after 3 days or so just to resupply with fresh. I also make sure I offer at least 4 different types of green and yellow vegetables, a fruit, a couple of servings of bread and a protein source every day. Like you, I sometimes wonder if he ate anything at all, but he appears to be meaty enough and happy. He does get excited when he sees me coming with his breakfast and dinner, though! lovemyGreys
Greys tend to eat more in the morning after their nights sleep,Continue to leave her a few treats to forage for while your out.Fruit & veg should be removed after a few hours before it starts to spoil.I would feed her fruit or veg in the morning while you are still around then remove it if it;s going to be sitting their all day. Then you can leave her a dish of seed or pellet to eat during the day. lovemyGreys
 deedee doesn't look like a jumper to me,but you are quite right i know of people who have put jumpers on their birds to help prevent plucking,if you do this supervise your grey & take it off before bedtime, there is the risk they can catch their claws on threads etc.
BondsMom
Hi DeeDee, LovemyGreys is right it's not a jumper, it's a sweater made from a sock. I think it would help, but my Grey hated it and tore it to pieces...It was the first and only time I was able to get it on her...
